Laparoscopy and ovarian cyst removal help?!

I was wondering if anyone could help me, I had a laparoscopy and cyst removal 2 weeks ago and I was in a lot of pain for the first week, the pain is a lot better now although I am still very sore if someone bashes my stomach or if my pup climbs on me, I also tried to lift something up high yesterday and felt a tight pulling sensation under one of my scars.

I am very tired! To the point I have to have a lie down after doing the washing ect and am still feeling very bloated. I am recovering but I thought it would be quicker than this!

I am due to go back to work next week (I'm a nursery nurse in a baby/toddler room so it involves a lot of lifting, carrying and sitting on the floor) but I don't know if I'm ready yet, how long was you off work for after similar surgery? How long until I feel back to my normal self? I'm worried what everyone will think if I need longer off work my partner and family are very supportive but I still worry.

Thank you

Hi. I had a dermoid cyst removed and do a lot of lifting with my job. I was off work for 10 weeks. Even when I went back then I was very tired after a few hours.

You need time to heal and honestly I don't think you're ready to go back. You mught seem OK on the surface of your abdomen but just remember you've had a lot of pulling and poking around inside too, it needs time to settle down xx

I had a cyst removed and both ovaries and tubes and I took one month off of work to fully recover. I will say at the two week mark I was feeling pretty good and could have went back but I wanted to be fully recovered before I went back. I will say at one month I was 100% back to normal. I think everyone recovers differently. I was 50 yrs old when had my surgery and expected to take longer to heal but it was pretty quick. Hope you get your energy back very soon.  I was bloated for over a month after the surgery so that will go down, and my incisions did feel a little tight for a couple of weeks also.

Thank you for your reply

What job do you do? I hear of some people going back to work after a couple of weeks and I don't know how they do it! It would be easier if I had a desk job rather than carrying children around all day.

How were your work with you being off? Mine are being nice about it so far but nervous about their response if the doctor decides to sign me off again! I also only get statutory sick pay as my company don't pay proper sick pay so that's a bit of a worry.

Thanks for your reply, wow you done well to heal from all that within a month! Good on you I'm a very healthy girl, eat well, exercise and a good weight so I thought I would Spring back a week or so after.

I suppose if I had a desk job or a job that didn't involve a lot of lifting and carrying I would be able to go back a lot sooner!

I have quite a heavy job lifting large orders at a cosmetics company so I didn't go back until I was pain free. I am quite fortunate though as they pay full sick pay for 6 months.

Have a chat with your employer to see if they can work around your needs. Maybe they can make sure you don't do any heavy lifting x
