Laser TURP op

Anyone had a green light laser TURP operation, I had a cystoscopy on Thursday and was told I need a operation, I got in on Tuesday and was told I have to take it easy for 3 weeks and not driving ?  So wanted to find out from anyone who has had it done that can shed some light on it all.

What they tell you and reality are different. What they told me about green light laser is that recovery would take 6 weeks. As it turned out recovery was the bloodiest and painful 8 months I had ever experienced.

I had green light laser done 4months ago on my 130g prostate. I had a small amount of bleeding for 2 weeks and  very little pain. I had frequent urination and some incontinence for 6 weeks which is totally gone now. I am very please with my results and would not hesitate to do it again.

Sorry to hear that lester, sound horrible, but I guess everyone is different

Thanks William,

It’s all happening so fast for me, they did want me in the next day but I was a bit taken back, so agreed to Tuesday, when can’t we drive for 3 weeks ?

Is the pain that bad or something else, they told me I have to stay in for the night and I’ll have a  wee bag for 7 days.

I know they say no heavy lifting, but what was you still able to do ?

I’m not one to sit about doing nothing, I’ll go mad 😠

Try a PAE first. Non invasive. That's why it's want u to hurry up so u don't find out about pae. Contact doc Isaacson at UNC.

Do not be afraid to look into Holep...long term results are superior..Studies show less chance of re-operations with Holep..Only good as the Doc behind the laser.

Good luck & God Speed

Are you I the UK as it is now the standard NHS procedure for BPH ?. I was an early patient for it when it was being first being done in Newcastle in 2004 for my 75 gram prostate. I had it Friday afternoon and travelled to Edinburgh by train on the Sunday. On the Monday I went to the races without needing to worry about going to the toilet. No pain, no urgency, no retention and only a slight bit of blood and burning at the start of urination. Life was back to normal. I can't see why they said no driving. No heavy lifting and take a stool softener so you do not need to strain on the toilet. Have sex when you feel like it. I waited about ten days, no retro. A friend only waited three days to make sure everything was working.

My catheter was out at 6.30 the next morning but it took me until about lunchtime me to do my first pee. As I had retention they kept me for another night as I had a train journey home. By the next afternoon I was only retaining a minimal amount.

Yes I’m uk,

It’s being done private under this guy,

He is highly rated

All I know is it’s laser surgery, and they said I’ll have to keep the catheter in for a week, and he said I’m not to drive for 3 weeks, I also read this online.

To tell the truth, all I know is it’s laser at by dr Rohan Thilagarajah.

There are other, less invasive options that would likely work as well as greenlight with almost no risk of permanent problems. Greenlight requires anesthesia and is reasonably safe in the right hands, but there are many people who ended up permanently incontinent, impotent or both from greenlight. Rezum, Urolift, PAE and FLA can work as well with very little risk of a permanent problem. Also, greenlight gives you a 50/50 shot at dry ejaculations (permanently) and the above options no more than a 10% chance. IMO, you should find a doc who offers the less invasive procedures and opt for one of them first.

Listen to old buzzard. My URO  wanted me to go into surgery pretty quickly as well and was recommending some sort of Vapor TURP. I declined the surgery and asked for other alternatives when he mentioned Rezum and Urolift. I also found FLA but I'm Chicago and FLA is only done in a few states, Florida and Texas are two I found. If you can hold off, do so, and do some research about other less invasive surgeries with less side effects.

You had it done all ready.  I hope you got a second opinion.  That was to fast.  A TURP is the last thing you need  Ken

Please listen to these men Don't rush into anything with out looking into it.  Never take the first thing offered.  There are many procedure that will help you without having a TURP.  Not saying that it has not help very few in the past but please look into something else.  My doctor told me and he tells his other patients that a TURP is the last resort.  I don't think your there yet.  Also sometimes that is when you can have more problems start.  Please put a hold on the TURP for your own good  Ken

He sounds well qualified but the rush to do it is unusual.

They usually give you the choice  of having a spinal injection. As I keep repeating to our American friends GL is the NHS choice for patients without P.C with 13,000 a year being done.

I've had two laser  procedures without side effects and as often explained rapid recovery. UK procedures done in hospitals seem to have better outcomes than ones in America in 'Doctor's Offices'

Kenneth read it again it is GL 'Laser TURP' as many Uro's here call it.
