Thanks to all here for all the good advise. Off to hospital for 3 tomorrow. See you all soon with my new hip who will be formally known as metal Maggie.

Metal maggie waiting in hospital for me. Tonight I am saying a fond farewell and a big thank you to the hip joint that had served me so well.

On and farewell to my jeans and sandals for a while too.

Thanks gill. Thought I read that sandals were out. Great news that I can at least were flat ones.

Dont worry so much about this sleep thing, if you try my counting back and stilling the mind excercise you will drop off, it is just that stilling the mind and body at the same time is difficult,, well therein lies the excercise, I had to practice it for a while to get it right and when you get it right you will know that you got it right.

I have to go to see the doctor next week to tell them I will have the  operation. It's only the fantastic people on this forum that made up my mind, totally scared out of my wits but got no choice, good luck hun.

I had 2 pairs with velcro across the feet and round the heel they have been a godsend for me and no-one has said I shouldn't be wearing them. Infact one of the physios said they were a good idea.
