I had an ear infection some weeks ago which cleared up, I thought, with Otomize spray from the gp. The infection returned but this time with yellow watery liquid seeping out and initially stabs of pain. Doctor took swab to send to hospital but have just learned after ringing myself that the result is "normal". The pain has gone but the ear is still merrily leaking yellow liquid. Anybody experienced leaking ears?
you should get a referal to an ENT. I had a ear infection 8 years ago. Initally i was being fobbed off by my GP as i kept going ad i knew something wasnt right. Ive always had ear problems since i was small and my i pretty much know when something wrong. He kept telling me there was nothing wrong and to use decongestant spray. l wole up one night with horrendous pulsating snd pain and all of a sudden i felt a pop and out came yellow pus. Then i got the referal. It turned out i had CHOLESTEATOMA. which causes ear infections and other issues. You have surgery to remove it. The problem with Cholesteatoma it can keep growing back so you have life time ENT care. INSIST on get a REFERAL. Keeping back to your GP until he does.
Thankyou Nicola Jane for your reply. I spoke to another GP this am who said the swab revealed no infection but could be fungal (I wear hearing aids although not at the moment) like thrush and is sending me some other drops to try. I looked up cholesteatoma and although the intermittent pain I had has gone the liquid is definitely yellow. However I’d better try the new ear drops when they arrive and go back to the GP if there is no improvement.
Im glad to help. Does the discharge smell? This is a sign of Cholesteatom. Fingers x its not. Hopefully everything will be ok x
