left Ankle suddenly very swollen and painful 5 months after talonavicular/calcaneocuboid fusion

Hi!

i had my left talonavicular/calcaneocuboid fusion surgery last Octobe (2019).

I was advised to stop using my walking boot in January (2020) and was very quickly back to walking lore, driving my car again ( which is manual) and having some swelling which is normal after such big surgery.

Fast forward to last weekend-I have had no swelling or tenderness for a few weeks and all of a sudden waking up Sunday morning my entire ankle was like a balloon. It is incredibly tender and I have been icing it and wearing my aircast boot around the house- I have had to take a sick day from work but really cannot afford the time off as I have already used my sick pay during the recovery from my surgery and do not know what else to do.

given the mass panic regarding Covid-19 I am hesitant to visit my hospital as I know they will likely tell me to apply the RICE protocol.

Has anyone else expierienced this sort of symptom before? I will attempt to attach a photo.

Thank you, David.

Hmmm Dint know what to say here
Did you have an especially busy day on Saturday that might have caused this?
Id start by calling your doctor
And icing and putting on boot will help relieve some if it as well
All my best

I had a trimalleolar fracture 2/14/2019.Many months after being out of the boot my ankle would swell like a balloon too. It will stop everyone is different. I always iced and elevated my foot when possible. Good Luck!

This is scary since I am recovering from a triple fusion and am still non weight bearing for another 4 weeks. I take off my boot to sleep at night, but that’s all. Think that you broke some hardware? Keep me posted and best of luck!
