just had a hip revision dec 27 thinking there might be a half or more difference will it settle or adjust.
I had mine 5 weeks ago and immediately noticed a significant difference in leg lengths. It’s definitely worrying me and causing me EXTRA pain. i read everywhere to give it 3 months…if it doesn’t settle and adjust, I’ve got some serious complaining to do because I can’t even stand straight without having to tip toe on one of my legs to reach the other. I hope I see it change and I hope it does for you too.
At four weeks I asked my surgeon which leg was now longer (I have two THR) and he said it was too soon to know - let it settle.
Guess that means yes let things settle - not sure but I think he said to ask again after 12-weeks if I still thought there was a difference.

My revision resulted in 3/4" discrepancy. My body adjusted slowly over 3-4 months. In the meantime I wore 2 different shoes, one with a thicker sole, and the insole removed from the other. It helped level me out and worked beautifully. It really made it hard for me to walk right until I did this. Good luck to you.

I am almost 10 months post right THR, and have what I am told is a 6 mm to 1 cm increase on my operated side. It appears as a fair bit more, and sure feels like more than that. I have been putting something in all footwear almost since day 1, despite the accepted practice to not correct before the year mark, since walking without additional support has caused pain in my hip area, thigh, low back pain and non-op side, shorter leg foot.
I recommend going hard at physio, to get as strong as you can, and maintaining those exercises. They did not alleviate my pain, but did give me more stability and confidence, both in movement, and just plain body awareness.
In a nutshell, I have been retained by surgeon on his 3 months watch list, and since the beginning my movement ability has pretty much remained consistent. I will be having a consult with a revision specialist after the magic one year mark has passed.
I recommend looking into it sooner rather than later, remaining patient, even though it is a disappointing situation, strengthening as much as possible, and trusting what you feel.

thanks everone it may nothing i can only put 50 percent of my weight on my leg for two months im useing crutches.
I had my left hip in January 2018 and had the right with leg leveling in September 2018 and it will be a year for first and four months for second. My surgeon said at three month I would see considerable difference and I have. I still have a slight limp due to right still adjusting and I am so very happy that it is settling. I am patient and praying it will all be fine. I go back to him in February and I expect to be even better. I am very happy my surgeries are over and I feel fantastic with very few pains but still taking hydrocodon-APAP half tablet every 4 hours. i have some bad days when I wake up stiff but thankful I can walk inside mostly without my cane. I pray things will work out for you and congratulations on the surgery.
i had my first hip replacement 2011. 2nd hip replacement in 2012 . and was left with 2 and a half inch leg length difference.this does not put it self right.i have a contance limp
They usually say give it 3 to 6 months for everything to settle.
HI, I am 9 Weeks in and have a 2cm difference it shows. i walk differently. i am having the second hip done end of Jan and my surgeon has assured me the difference will be put right. this is great news as i think i would have really struggled if it was like that for a long time. the physio was sating i could refer for inserts in my shoes as they can only give small ones. Are you getting the other hip done just in order to level out the lengths??
I had a THR in May of 2018 and Surgeon stated my operated leg was then 1/4" longer after surgery. I still feel and notice it and I dont think it has caused me any major issues, it still drives me crazy because I am aware of it. Surgeon promised at my 1 year check up, that all would be well. I am not really believing him right now, as its only 4 months away.
oh gosh I’m so sorry to hear that. You’re not alone, it’s driving me crazy too. I can barely stand the same and I walk with a limp. I pray they come up with a suitable solution for you.

im not sure about the other side yet i know there is wear on it too ive had this hip replacement for 24 years and he replaced the liner a new ball and a lot of graft to the femur and cup

I don’t believe him either. I had mine done in June 2018 and am still limping. My operated leg is longer too. I really do not believe it will get better. I am going crazy and am so upset over this leg length discrepancy and limp.
Its so frustrating. I am having sciactic nerve issues, runs down the operated side of leg, from pelvis to top of foot. Getting an injection Wednesday. Not excited about that, hoping it gives some relief and theres no complications from it.
I found sciatica absolutely horrific. I found the only thing that helped was physiotherapy and exercise. The trouble is the exercises mean you doing the most incredible acrobatics!
Dr did do an MRI and found nothing as he was concerned about a buldging disk. Spine dr said it was from the hip surgery and prescribed physical therapy, and strong anti-inflammatories. It worked for awhile, but not so much anymore!
