Leg lift

Hi thought I was doing really well can finally do the sideways leg exercise 1 crutch outside none indoors but whilst laying on bed the leg will just not lift up. Anybody have any idea when this will come. Also quite a bit of soreness in groin today. I had posterior. I will be 5 weeks in on Thursday.

Hi Tracey I am 7 weeks in and only yesterday was able to do the side ways bed exercise but have been able to lift leg for a few weeks. Have also just managed to walk out with no support since Saturday. Also developed groin pain. Had posterior on 19 March. See consultant tomorrow and hoping for green light. Think we all recover at different times. Leg lifts will come with time just keep trying

I couldn't do that lift until about 10 or 11 weeks. Physio just told me to keep on trying and I can do it now . Have aches in other joints and muscles so have gone back to my wonderful Chinese Dr for accupuncture and deep massage . It is expensive but has helped in the past so fingers crossed .

Hi Tracey. Don't do the leg lift if it's painful. You might be aggravating your iliac muscle and the leg lift is the worst thing you can do!!

Groin pain and difficulty getting into / out of a car with the one leg in first method are the classic symptoms. Your physio needs to give you specific exercises for this.

Not under any physio I only got 3 10 minute sessions in hospital then left to it after discharge will google the illiac tho as not needed any pain relief for 2 weeks til today.

Hi Tracey! Well done! We are all at different levels with our healing! I am 9weeks today! Went for hydrotherapy today! Wow I am taking painkillers tonight! As I have over done it! Also I am my Hubby's carer! So not easy for me!! Anyway good luck ! I am also having reflexology as well! Regards Amanda

I am 8 weeks post-op - I can do the leg lifts with my operated leg - still weak but I do them - however, I just cannot lift my non-operated leg - it is so darn painful - especially in the groin area -  and upper thigh - I believe it is all in this wonderful game of healing .. good night - warm hug

Yep....that lifting is the hardest but will come when the muscles are better.  It took me about 4-5 weeks to do the sideways slide.  My therapist helped me learn to use a cane with a bent handle to help lift the leg up.    If your using and training new muscles, you can develop groin or knee pain. And she taught me that if someone lifts or slides your leg once, then your leg muscles will remember that and it should be easier.  It worked for me.

I don't take pain relief now (I'm 17 weeks) but the groin pain came after about 8-10 weeks. It now only hurts if I forget to get into the car the 'mini-skirt' way, sit down, knees together and swivel, or if I try that leg lift.

My brother developed this problem at about 6 months post op and it can still grab him sometimes at 15 years!!!

Stretching the muscle at the front of the thigh is good but not the leg lift. Can you get physio through your GP? That's who in seeing now. I believe in making my body work hard but if it's excruciating pain then something is wrong.

I'm 6 wks and can only just lift my leg straight up and it gives me alot of discomfort in my groin

More of same message - do not worry: some folk so things at 3 weeks, others at 13 weeks: keep walking lots and trying avariety of exercises: one will help the other!

If you think how your leg has been pulled and twisted to discolcate the joint during the op then it's not surprising that the muscle down the front of your hip/thigh is protesting! Try watching the op on youtube and you'll be a bit more easy on yourself.

I think some physios think 'no pain no gain' but it's not always the case!!

ahhhhhhh mic so wish it was my hawk. Got a voucher for another day at the sanctuary so motivation for getting better there.  Think the message coming across now not to worry about what other people are doing just concentrate on what i can do.

Right no more stressing about what i can't yet do focus on improving what i can now do.  Shall keep walking and exercising. Tis a marathon not a sprint

 

Cool...but postpone the marathon till next summer!

I am 5 months post op.  Don't worry if you can't do the leg lift yet.  It will come when your thigh muscles are stronger.  Leave off trying for a while and one day, say in 11 or 12 weeks or so, you will find you are able to do it.  Don't bother trying if it hurts, it will only feel worse.  When you are able to walk more, the muscle will get stronger.  Just go at your own pace.  Good luck.
