Hi just curious how long people were in hospital for, I am having mine on a thursday and hoping to be home over the weekend. As a diabetic I will be first on the list so may be on feet by evening meal. Or am I in a little dream world here lol.
The general consensus from what I could gather was four days and three nights.
I was first in but did not get onto my feet until following morning when the nurse announced they needed to change the bed linen so I had to move !!
Hi, I had my op 2.00 pm on a Saturday. Was on my feet Sunday morning and home Tuesday morning. There were a couple of people who had op same day as me and went home on the Monday morning! So does vary. There are certain things you need to be able to do before discharge like stairs, getting in and out bed etc. good luck with your op. sure you will be fine x
Hello Tracey, I was in for 4 nights home for the weekend. I am now 3 weeks post op . Things going well Good Luck. Where are you having your op? Regards Amanda
Hi Tracey
I went in on a Tuesday and came out Saturday am. Can depend on how you are after your op and even the hospitals policy! I stayed a little longer as my wound was bleeding a bit. But usually 3-4 days/nights.
Best of luck with your op on Thursday.

Hi Tracey. I went into hospital on the Tuesday at 1.00pm and and left on Thursday at 1.00pm. My op wasn't until 5.30pm so didn't get up until the next day. I was told by that night I could go home the next day. As soon as you can manage the stairs they are happy for you to go home as long as you have someone to look after you. Good luck with your op and a speedy recovery. Denise.
Hi Tracey,
Good luck with your op. Yes, general consensus is three nights - with structured programme of teaching about stairs, going to brush teeth, crutches, etc, as we rapidly go thru these hoops.
I actually had a catheter fitted post op as they forgot to do it in the op as per usual, and there was then a blip about a registrar coming to supervise its removal...so I had four nights.
All fine theo, good to be in their hands!

Hi,
I had my bi-lateral hip replacement at 5.00pm on a Thursday and was in for 8 nights. I too am diabetic and I thought I would go down early but was actually last on the list (op was 5pm and finished 11pm). Was not able to eat afterwards as all the pain meds made me sick but the hospital were constantly monitoring and helping to keep sugar levels at a level. Took me longer to eat, and be discharged becasue of having both done. Very hard at the time but reaping the benefits now and with all the physio and hydrotherapy and persistence to get the best out of this.
Glad things going well Amanda I was concerned for you prior to your op, think all on forum wanted to give you a big hug you were so stressed. I am having it done at Bedford hospital on 9th April.
Thanks Linnet op not til 9th April got easter to enjoy first
Thank you all for replies and best wishes all being well i could be home on the Sunday. Other half said in time to cook sunday lunch maybe lol
I went in on a Friday. Had op Friday morning. On my feet on Saturday morning and home on Sunday 2.30 p.m. Good luck with yours.
Hi Tracey
If in uk you'll be out as soon as poss.
You'll be out of bed that day as they have to get you walking asap to prevent blood clots and help the prosthesis bed in well.
As long as your diabetes is stabilised and you can get up and down stairs etc you'll be out in 3 days, so should be home over the weekend.
I had to stay a day longer cos I had to have 2 pints of blood as I passed out morning after op trying to wash myself with no help from nurse just told to do it, so don't do that lol.
Went in Friday am, had op late Friday afternoon, out on commode in evening and night and up walking sat, sun passed out so had to stay in bed and home Monday. Just a long weekend away lol.
Good luck, look forward to hearing from you afterwards.
Ha, he wishes Tracey, Sunday roast and in fact all dinners will be his job for awhile, so he better get used to it. Lol
Hi Tracey my new hip will be 9 weeks younger than yours . I was first down at 9am back in ward at 12.45 , eating tea and toast at 2 pm . They tried to get me out of bed at 3 ish but I fainted due to low blood pressure . Was up fir no prob .. They kept me in for six nights as wound was weeping .i didn't mind as I am a carer and had a room of my own for three nights so I had a rest .
goid luck

Hi, I was in on a Tuesday with my operation at 10.30am and released on the Friday same week. I could have gone home on the Thursday evening but was told that my doctor had an emergency so he couldn't sign off.
Good luck and best wishes to you and all goes well.
Hi Tracey, i had Lthr on monday 16:30, back on ward 21:00, out of bed10:30 tues, had a bit of a leaky wound but still went home at 18:30 weds with nappy thickness of dressing:D ( gone now i'm two weeks po)
. If all goes as well for you maybe you'll be out sat evening. Heres hoping for you. Atb jay
Unless your diabetes is an issue postop, I would think on the third day you would be home. I was only in for two nights, went in the am of the surgery. The time goes fast and it is helpful to have a few days there to get the help you need initially. Do take care and have the best, uncomplicated recovery possible.
i had mine done on the wed 16th july out on the friday 18th , just in time for my birthday on the 19th
Hi Tracey
I had both of mine done on a Friday and was out on the Monday......one of them...I had 2 blood transfusions afterwards.....so you wont be long. Once you can do the stairs and they have shown you a few exercises they'll have you out the door
