Lepidus Bunionotomy

I am 9 weeks post operative Lepidus Bunionotomy surgery, and at long last I am walking without the aid of the air cast boot and crutches. I have a plate securing the joints where they have been fused together, but since I have been walking the area where the plate is has become quite painful, swollen and tender.  Is this because of the stress of weight bearing on it? Has anyone else had problems with plates and screws in their foot. I have tried to make an appt to see my consultant but he is not available until the New Year. Is this something that will ease in time or will I have to have the plate removed?

Sorry thatI can't help. Have had screws but not a plate. Are you able to get any advice over the phone from the hospital where you had the procedure? I have rang a couple of times and have been given advice. It is often just enough to put your mind at rest

Hi Sue,

I had an experience whereby during my last visit with my Surgeon. I told him that I felt pain at the area where he inserted a screw when I walked for  about 1 hour. He told me it could be due to longer screw that he used as compared to the other 2 screws. So he said if I agree he will conduct another operation to take out the screw. Since its not swollen and not really painful I did not agree to do it.

Wow that's crazy - he wanted to go back in there.  I think you made the right call about that situation.

good luck on your healing.
