Levothyroxine and Atenolol and what supplements

Is it ok to take levothyroxine and atenolol together? My cardiologist says it's ok but I'm doing research online I have found it says not too... any reason not too?

Also in the past year I've went from thyroid storm (hyper) to having normal ranges and now being hypo is there any supplements I should be taking to help with my hypo?

Hi Cheryl, doctors don't neceesarily know all the contrindiczrions of drugs, as in dealing with my grandmother, my mom and dad, I've found I've needed to keep a very close eye on the meds because they get prescribed by different docs and nobody's really checking to make sure everything works ok together- it isn't.

Do do look at what other patients gave experience. Because, while we can look at a list of all the side effects of a medication, there isn't really any way to know the severity of the side effects or how often they occur unless you do extensive research.

You need to take levothyroxine on an empty stomach with a full glass of water (2 hours after food and not eat for an hour afterwards) you also need to take it well away from any other medication or you can block absorption.  I would suggest you leave at least 4 hours between the levothyroxine and any other medication.  Have you got autoimmune thyroid disease? It sounds like it from your description.

I take several supplements, but the main ones are selenium which needs to be taken with vitamin E, zinc and magnesium which help with conversion of the levothyroxine (storage hormone) to T3 (the active hormone)
