lichen planus

OH thank god for finding this site and some others with the same complaint.

I have got lichen planus on arms very bad, legs, vulva, oraland now starting on my chest. I have used cetroban, dermovate, dermol, doublebase cream, hydrocortisone, calamine lotion, aqueous cream..my GP been excellent.

Also Trimalgin, betnovate for below and am now tearing my hair out with sleepless nights with itching.

I go to work like a zombie and its so embarrasing having to scratch, they say the monkeys here as a joke.

Please can anyone help me, this has gone on for 6months nearly...am waiting to see the dermatologist. I had a vulval flare 4 years ago and was ok up until early this year....Thanks

Hello Pat

I am so sorry to hear of the severity of your skin conditions. Why not join some of us here on the two - three day fast and see if that helps to re-set your immune system so that it stops thinking your own body is a problem. This is something that is in the very early stages of research in USA, but it doesn't do us any harm to stay on water, black tea/coffee for that time and it may do us some good. I did a two day fast at the beginning of August and am trying a three day fast this September. I found that I felt pretty energised and not at all hungry. I reckon it was the fear of no food which was the problem for me in getting started.

There's a group of us here who are starting the fast tomorrow.

Join us???

Hi Pat. This sounds like  LP or LS in the vulval area and if so it is diabolical. You have my every sympathy. The treatment is dermovate, the clobetasol 0.05, whichever of these diseases you have.

It has to be used very sparingly but it usually the only thing that brings real relief. Scratching and rubbing can damage the skin further,  so you need to get this under control.

I hope you see your dermatologist very soon, but if not, you should go back to your GP and tell her/him how bad it is. Mostly it seems docs start us off on the milder medications , then wait till we scream before giving us something stronger.

I had LP for over two years in various parts of my body then it went to the vulval area. It is either LP or LS which I have, and I have never had a biopsy done as the treatment is the same anyway.

Act soon and don't scratch if you can help it. I  know it is well nigh impossible not to at times!

I would love to do it but dont think with Diabetes it is a good idea.

Thank You for your support.

I would love to hear how you all get on though.

I had to lock the door at work today and scratch below for England, it was awful...Thank You for replying any new ideas i will try but have to watch with my Diabetes.

Dermovate i have heard works wonder and you have said the same( why she did not give me that.)?

I will have a word with her if i dont get Dermatology apt soon

.Thanks Again

Hi pat just wondered how you are I am the same I noticed I started with mine after an abnormal smear test years ago for which I had treatment, have you ever had problem with smear test x

Hi Jodie I suffer badly with this mine came after an abnormal smear for which I had a biopsy and some treatment have you ever had any problems like this I just think there linked x

I have just ended a 5 day fast.  You have lots of water, and can have up to 200 calories a day in a vegetable juice or a citrus (which bothers some...but I diluted mine alot) and all the non-caffeine herbal tea you want. I have already notice that my mouth has healed and the itching in the private area and my legs is much improved. I also recently found that a dab of 99% pure aloe vera gel in the private area all but eliminates itching. It did not help as much on my legs though...but may for others.  The fast was not as difficult as I expected...you just need to be careful coming off it...I started with a finely chopped salad of lettuce and carrots and then a yogurt and good probiotic. By the next day I was eating fairly normal...just be careful about dairy or hard to digest meats for a few days...add them back in slowly.

Talk to your doctor about a fast.  He will probably advise you to not take your diabetes meds during it...and to do the juices if he a approves it.  If approved he would probably limit you to no more than a 3 day fast. A fast can be beneficial for type II diabetics...but would not attempt it without a doctors approval. As was alluded to in another post...there is definite medical science behind fasts improving and in some cases putting LP and/or LS in remission or eliminating it.

Hello all

i really need some advice please. Firstly, i sympathise so much with you all.

I have just been diagnosed with lp. I have it on my back, back of my legs, vagina, underarms and on the top of my hands. Clobaderm has been prescribed, and to take a antihistamine every night.  The itch is under control, but my skin on my vagina and inner thighs and underarms is very very discoloured. I am horrified!  Going on holiday in the sun in october and frightened it will still be there. Very depressed.

Does it clear up?  Can my hubby and i still make love?  Very depressed, please advice.

Thanks.

I've been trying something old and something new. My legs were really bad right up to my knees and the itching was driving me insane. I sprayed them down with witch hazel and let that dry (I've been using this in the private area for several years (stings a bit if you are inflamed but calms down very quickly...and does hasten healing). I then apply black walnut hull extract to the affected areas (have not done this in the private area...so proceed with caution there). I'm also putting 5 drops of the black walnut hull extract into some juice...do this for 18 days. After 2 days the rash on my legs is all gone except for one 4 x4 area...which was the worst...and the itching is gone!  I also take a good probiotic and try to eat well. A dab of 99% pure or higher aloe vera gel applied after rinsing yourself after toileting also helps immensely with the itch. If you can not tolerate the witch hazel spray in the private area, try 2 pinches of bicarbonate of soda in water in about an 8 oz spray bottle for rinsing...or even salt water for that area. Until you are healed sex will aggravate the condition.  Coconut oil is also a good moisturizer for the private area...has skin healing properties.  Try to avoid artificial sweeteners...many say this has helped improve their condtion when they avoid them.  Also...finally got the right amount of the bicarbonate of soda for a sitz bath from someone who has used that for quite sometime with good results. She uses only 1/2 teaspoon...if you use too much it can actually make things worse.  Read up about the steroid use...short term may be necessary...but try to control this through natural methods as much as possible. Steroids have very nasty side effects...especially long term.

Any hair loss in the private parts xx

I'm not experiencing that...fortunately.

How old are you renee Xx

I'm a young 65. smile

I'm 56 renee and noticed my lichens came at the same time as an abnormal smear test for which I had treatment think there's a link there and recently noticed hair becoming very sparse xx

I had one abnormal smear about the same age as you. They suspected uterine cancer...but I was lucky to have avoided that...but made be more vigilant in my diet and care for myself...but certainly didn't prevent this horrible stuff.

Thank you so much renee77108.  I will try these. Thanks for the advice about the sex aspect too. Very much appreciated.
