Hi, About twenty years ago I had a problem with small pea shaped boils popping up inside my labia. The doctors didnt know what to make of it, and in the end I was diagnosed with Folliculitis and given a ten day course of antibiotics....they cleared up, and I thought nothing more of it.
Through my recent research on L Schlerosus I have come across some articles mentioning boils, and I wondered does any one know are these two in fact definitely related? could it be that I never had Folliculitis and that the boils are in fact a symptom of Lichen Schlerosus.
I have had them since back then, but very rarely, and all those years ago I definitely didnt have the tell tale signs of L Schlerosus, but I am wondering if I have always had LS, and it was there, just dormant...thoughts would be appreciated.
I've had groin boils since I was a teenager. I think I've had LS for at least 40 years, maybe 60. It was a huge boil over my clitoris that got me finally diagnosed last year.
Hi Guppy--I'm also aware of another autoimmune disorder that presents with boils as its main manifestation. It's called Hidradenitis supprative (HS). I read a good book on managing and treating autoimmune disorders by an author who had struggled with this disorder her whole life (Tara Grant--the book is called the Hidden Plague) and had frequent boils. Perhaps there are other autoimmune disorders with this presentation, too. I hope that you can find some answers! --Suzanne
Folliculitis is the name for a rash that doctors cannot fathom the cause. It is the inflamation of the follicles in the skin - itis being the medical term for inflamation
Have you had you urine tested for sugar levels - sometimes with recurrent boils there is a raised level in the urnine and blood
Ask you GP for an appointment with a specialist and perhaps they may decide you need a biopsy
What symptoms do you have now?
I have had boils for the first 40 od years of my life too esp in the groin and where hair grew down below but when i suddenly went into menapause they just stopped. Thats when the intense itch started.
Sounds similar.
Thanks everyone..I just wondered if there was a connection, which it sounds like there could be, as mentioned, I dont have any boils at the moment, I was just wondering if my diagnosis all those years back was in fact Folliculitis or LS.
