i have LS and have always been a keen cyclist. is it possible to continue this hobby and does anyone have any tips as im afraid cycling may aggreviate the condition. thank you
Hi,
What a good question. I cycle every day with L S. I recall four years ago I inherited a road bike and I swear this caused my problem that and menopause. I sold it and still cycle. My dr told me to stop I might add she was obese too which I found a joke. I cycle to help with my depression and cholesterol. I swiftly told her this. I got a cut out saddle. You can get an italian brand something Belle I dont know the name its expensive but is cut away from front to back totally. I think darent say the name but a cycle shop online beginning with E. My cycling hasnt made me worse and the enjoyment outaways it too. Enjoy cycling we live once x
Hello Sue
thanks for the reply, very interesting a i cycle( or did) and had a really tough menopause.!
Thanks for the saddle advice
I think but dont quote me oestrogen makes our tissue in that area more subtle and I suppose less thin for trauma like a bike saddle to have to cope with. I use Yes moisturiser which has helped and the dermovate has helped too. Id try a new saddle trouble is the shops dont sell the special ones so we cant try them before we buy.
Hi Rachel,
I have had LS for two years - I was told that any pressure on the area would make it worse - My bike riding, horseback riding, is so important to me - So the good news: I went to a specialist - a dermatologist that treats LS and women’s issues - she said that I could lead a normal life - biking, horses, (and I can quit cutting the crotches out of my underwear) - that most doctors don’t treat LS properly so it continues to be an issue. The treatment: For two months apply very thin layer of ointment daily to the entire area. Don’t miss a day. I was applying too much ointment 2-3 times a week (I use Topicort) so the ointment was making my condition a little hard to deal with - the squirt of ointment should be very little - about the size of an English pea - I was using more - causing more irritation but I thought I was under control -
So now I am so happy - it’s like I am normal. I do everything - I feel normal. The maintenance dose is the same very thin application 3 times weekly. My skin feels normal. I think all LS patients should see a specialist - it makes a huge difference.
Good Luck to you -
Barbara
