Hi all! On Friday I was cross country schooling my horse, when he kindly went to dodge a jump and took me straight into a tree. I managed to stay on whist going over the jump and for a short period before hitting the deck. Anyway, once I'd got myself to A&E it turns out I've ruptured two ligaments in my right ankle and torn a ligament in my left knee. I've been told to limit movement for about two weeks, limit my time on my crutches (basically venturing to the loo and back) although I've to try and get my foot into the 'neutral' position as much as poss (it's turning inwards currently). I'm also wearing compression bandaging during the day and have ordered an ankle brace for once the swelling has subsided.
I'm already fed up though, so has anyone got any advice on how to speed up the healing process and what are people's experience of recovery times with similar injuries? Many thanks!!
Hi hope you are bearing up when i ruptured my ligaments in my ankle i was put in a boot for 4 weeks then after mri had to have surgery to repair them as they had completley torn apart unfortunatley there is no quick speedy recovery but to rest elavate and ice i am suprised the hospital havent provided you with a boot or put u in one as you have no support for the ankle may be because of your knee as well they have told you to limit your movement good luck with your recovery unfortunatly it takes time to recover but you will get there
There now is a new treatment perfectly natural one, OSTENIL TENDON. It is injected in a viscous form between the joints in the knee and creates a cushion. It seems you have torn the ligament in the inner side of your leg. It does take time! And it IS most painful. My ligaments are twisted in lower leg which puts any replacement out of the question at my age and would necessitate removal from the hamstring of more healthy ligaments. Recovery time over a year. So no thanks. Wish you luck and try remembering others far worse off. It does help.
Hi! 😀
First of all I must tell you I'm from Sweden (my English aren't the best). I'll do what I can to make you understand what I mean.
Ok. 😊
I sprained my ankle wearing high heeled boots in late Nov. 2013. (looking back it was foolish idea wearing high heels 😉
I've sprained my ankles countless of times as we're living on a farm breeding horses and dogs. It never occurred to me a sprain without any fracture could bring me down in this way.
But it did...
It's been almost (in a few days) 14 months since I fell in the stairs.
I have been out of my glassfiber cast and had my syndesmosis screw (tib-fib screw) removed 10 days ago.
I am absolutely sure this injury will not make me stop living my kind of life.
I know I've got permanent damage in my lateral malleolar as well. The extent of it (how much trouble it will cause me) is still unclear.
I am too stubborn giving up. In my point of view they need to help me get a brace stable enough to make it as painfree as it possible can be, allowing me to get out in the paddock and work with our horses again.
That's my goal.
I know, it's a hard tripp going though all of it, and ligaments heals slower than bones.
But I hold my thumbs for you. Cheer up! 😊😊😊
