Light-sensitivity, smarting, stinging, soreness three months after surgery.

I had both cataracts done in February, no problems post-op, quite a steady recovery, vision is good.  However since the ops I'm suffering terribly with light sensitivity and a feeling of smarting all the time. My surgeon says I've got blepharitis and that it's unusual for the light sensitivity to last this long but that it will definitely go.  He said the reason I'm so light sensitive is because of being allergic to the post-op steroid drops, Maxidex for four weeks, so I then had two weeks of Dropodex no-preservative drops as a treatment for the steroid drops allergy. I'm following the blepharitis regime and the eyelids are almost back to normal in that they aren't swollen any more but they are still a little sensitive. I'm using gel tears to ease the symptoms which is comforting to a certain extent. However the worst symptom is the light sensitivity which is excruciating on bright sunny days and can also be pretty bad in the evenings. Up to two weeks ago I was still wearing sunglasses to watch TV at night, and the last few days I've had to revert to sunglasses again at night if I want to watch TV. The eyes sting and smart and last night the stinging and smarting was so bad I couldn't read and could only just about bear to watch TV with sunglasses and squinting.   Has anyone had these symptoms post-op? What did your surgeons say? What did they advise? Did it help? How is it now? Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you.

Ouch!  I hope your eyes return to normal.  I experienced some mild light sensitivity, but not enough to cause me concern.  It seems to be gone now.  I had surgery on my left eye on 2/28 then my right eye 3/2.  They still don't feel completely normal, however.  I have a feeling that I'm wearing contact lenses all the time.  I also notiice, for lack of a better description, a jiggling effect around the outer edges of my vision.  Most notably when I'm looking through a screen or through blinds.  Also, scrolling my computer screen too fast causes some visual discomfort, sort of like a strobe effect.  I mentioned these side effects to my doctor at my 3 week follow-up, but he gave me the "all clear".  I think, also, that I now have dry eye.

Sorry, I cannot relate to  the sensitivity to that extent.  However, I used to be very sensitive and could not stand to be in sunlight without shades.  Then I noticed in the last 2 or 3 years it didn't bother me.  Now that I have had the surgery, I am back to the same old sensitivity as before.

My dr said that the cataracts were so bad that they had "shaded" my eyes.

Sorry to hear that - did your surgeon say you'll always be light sensitive?
