Are there exercises to help with my limp? I'm about 10 weeks post THR surgery and still limp, with pain for the first 9/10 steps then it settles down a little and the pain goes away but an ache in my but remains
I got a clean bill of health last week from my surgeon...any suggestions?
It is common to have trouble when you first stand, I had this for 18 months or so - you need to keep building those leg muscles up.
There are exercise sheets online, look at my website, on the Online Resources page for references to exercises. My website address is in my personal info here ...

Hi, I am exactly 6 weeks post surgery and took the advice of someone on this site and continually used BOTH crutches. When I tried to walk unaided it was just a few yards and I kept saying “heel toe, heel toe”. Now I hardly limp at all when walkingnunaided but I do have to concentrate on that heel toe repetition business!
I'm 8 weeks....I find when I first of all stand up it hurts and aches...I make a positive effort to pull right up and stretch my legs...and I'm concentrating on my stance holding myself up and walking properly....even if it's really slowly...if I'm going out and I know I will be walking quite a bit I will take painkillers...if I don't I find I will limp and I don't want it to become a habit....which I think it is easy to do...
Same advice here. I walked with BOTH crutches until my walking was correct. As our bodies compensated for the pain before the op, we now have to learn how to walk properly again.....Heal, toe, keeping your back straight and ensuring every step is correct.
It is worth it. I am nearly 3 months post op and have no limp at all.
How strong are your glutes? My limping has greatly gone down since doing side leg rise and standing on the operated leg for as long as possible and not letting the pelvis drop. My physio therapist gave me a bunch of exercises, the clam, the squats, lifting leg to the side. Ck with your physiotherapist.
