I had a TRHR on 12-30-15 after an accident where I slipped on dog poop and twisted and torqued my right leg under left leg on hard tile.I am a pet sitter and was there over 4 hours before getting help..forgot my phone that day. Anyway, I was making good progress but now 5 1/2 months in I am having a setback where I am limping again and my right knee is hurting. I was trying to go back to modified yoga and such but think going back to basic PT exercises and taking it easier might be the thing to do. Any one else still limping around almost 6 months later? It takes patience not to overdo.
Unlike most others I have read about on here that had THR mine was not due to arthritis but trauma. I fractured my femur head and slightly dislocated my hip due to a very hard fall which resulted in this injury. I wonder if there is a difference in the recovery when it is due to trauma. Any one else had a THR due to trauma?
You may well beright about this Cindy. There are a few more in this forum and I am sure they will reply shortly. If not try relabelling your discussion to relect thus.
Sorry for your situation - I am sure it is frustrating and worriesome. I wish you better luck recovering from here on in.
Hugs
Hi Cindy,
How unfortunate ... It is not unusual to experience some kind of a set back, or,hit a plateau - when things are going well I tend to get sloppier and less careful ... your body will let you know when you overdid it - Maybe it is the , but good for you to go for it - if we don't push ourselves than we don't know where we are, right ?
Knees are important to keep the body balanced , but I am sure you know that already - Continue with caution, I would say -
big warm hug

Hi
I fell in March this year and l too wonder if recovery is different. I am 12 weeks post THR and certainly am still having lots of aches and pains. I can't manage to walk any distance at all.

I think that healing of a fracture in addition to THR surgery might take longer ... There might be a non-weight bearing period - on the other hand, the body might be stronger than one that has been in chronic pain for a while what affected posture and muscles etc ..
Yes mine was truma just one year ago, nothing wrong before the fall,
now mostly ok, walk ,swim, play table tennis, and Pilates, I haven't tried to return to Badminton.
at first lots of swelling leg and foot/ankle, not able to drive when I was legal to,
I do get a dull ache at the end of most days, sometimes my right knee hurts/clicks.
What ever excercise you do is much better than nothing, just go steady/patience
hugs
Cindy,
My walking still is not perfect - in the morning I am OK, but after a day working, I do still limp a bit. Some days it's better than others - I think it's just the way it's going to be .
I had my op at the end of October, so I am 7.5 months out, 5 months since revision
Best wishes

Have you had your knee checked as hip and knee pain can refer up to your hip or down to your knee.Good luck
Thanks all for replies. I heard somewhere that standing on operative leg with other leg off ground and counting to 50 helps. But this is hard and have to lean a bit on operative side but gets easier. But already it is starting to help pain in knee and gait a bit. Also, clam shells is supposed to be good and other basic strengthening exercises.
Hello Cindy,
I am 12 weeks post op LTHR after a fall and breaking the head of the femur. I actually saw my x ray of this today which was quite something. I do some gentle yoga but would not feel ready to go back to my class yet. My guess is that you've overdone it and the muscles are protesting. The hamstring attaches to the knee I think .Are you limping because of pain in the hip?
If you have amantle - stand it front of it to give a little support using your finger tips to balance.
