Lingering Neck Pain off Minor injury

Hey, I hurt my neck a few weeks back. i work on tills in work sometimes and first noticed it then. i also do jiu jitsu which involves a lot of pulling on the back of your neck. Anyway, my neck kind of froze up and was painful and the back of my neck where the neck meets the skull. I went to the doctor and he says my muscles are spasming from my trapeziums up the back of my neck.Went and got physio and am still doing physio and it certainly helped. Ive been doing stretches for it daily. However my neck is still not fully better and flairs up from time to time. This injury happened 3 months ago and it seems like a minor injury so thought it would be better by now. I wouldnt describe my doctor as the best doctor which is why im asking you for a 2nd opinion. Should i be worried? Any other advice?

Hi Conor. I have the same but mine is arthritis. I am on strong pain killers for my knees but they don’t do anything for the neck pain. The only thing that seems to help is the old fashioned hot water bottle. Perhaps you could try that. The other thing are creams like deep heat. Rgds. Bob

hey thanks for the reply, im only 22 so surely i dont have arthritis? The deep heat and hot water definitely help though thanks

Curious ... if you let your head hang over the bed ( while on your back ) let your muscles go limp... listen and feel if your head cluncks, or clicks out.  Then tense your neck muscles and see if it slams or clunks back.

this is my problem.. I too did martial arts and sorts.  Yet I’m still looking for a diagnosis.

Neck issues are very complicated... I seen 5 doctors about this and 2 PT...  inconclusive.  They simply want me to do pain management.

What you sound like was me 10 years ago, but good chance you’re ok, but consider being wise with martial arts... some teach bad and it’s just not always healthy.

Sometimes mine clciks when i look left to right as part of the excercises i do to help it. The worst part of the pain is right where the nck meets the back of the head. Anyone at all ever experience anything like this?
