Location

Hi all,

Just a thought but here we are giving advice and help to hip oppers from our own perspective of age gender and country of origin. Would it not be an idea for everyone to put this info about theirselves on the account page that we all have. Nothing too personal of course but just enough to let others know if we can help.

It just seems a bit daft us giving advice from our NHS system point of view only to find out the newbie is from Us Aus Canada etc

Hi Colin

What you say makes sense. I suggested the same thing a long while ago.

It seems silly to have to ask those questions repeatedly when responding to a post, ie Where are you, which country, which part of UK ?etc.

Even within the UK there are great disparities between regions and between hospitals.

I believe the more we are able to share our experiences the better for us all!

I am interested to know which hospital and which surgeon others have experience of. Openness can only be a good thing for us all !!!

Of course the compassion and honesty of fellow hippies is much appreciated but the basic info. age, location, hosp, surgeon at top of page would help too.

I have just added those details as I agree it is a good idea Colinidea

Hi Colin,

Good idea - it is always nice to know more about each other, however ... (eek),

newbies have not read this post -

I think we can agree that most of us found this forum when we were looking for an answer to a question that had not been answered yet, or not paid attention to, or what ever we need clarification with - I, personally, was desperate to find out what the hell the groin pain was about at 10 days post-op ...

(that was about 10 months ago !!! - hmm, need to retire soon)-

Also, you know we share our personal experiences and stories - maybe better to ask where they are from ...

I wonder if Alan, our moderator, will allow postings of Hospitals and Surgeons' names ?

Agreed Colin, all our systems are different but doesn't help when in the UK we differ from county to County. I will put mine on each comment I make.. The last time I got to know a lady just 15 miles away

Hi Kate

It is also interesting to get to know of anyone close by and maybe even meet up in due course. I am always keen to know of anyone in my own neighbourhood with experience to pass on.

Great idea Colin, largely done already, but updated now.

Wouldn't it be great if you could give the basic details at account creation, and choose to display or not with each posting?  i.e. age, sex (not always obvious from a name), country, state/county/area.

Graham

Colin, I have posted the idea off to our moderator Alan.

They were my thoughts Graham. How can I get in touch with Mr Moderator to suggest that on joining you have to put age gender location date of op or proposed date as compulsory . Any other info optional

You beat me to it what did u suggest?

That was exactly my original suggestion, but a reply from Renee informed me that the info is at the top of each post if one clicks on at the top, however that is not always the case.

Easy to do - go to Useful Resources at

https://patient.info/forums/discuss/thr-useful-resources-487147

where it tells you to 'report' the post, select 'other' and add a note - i'll do it again as it just occurred to be a 'personal' footer would do the trick, and may be easier to implement on the website.

Just 'reported' my own conversation - he will then look at it, and see what we have all been saying.

Yes, a customisable footer would be ideal.

Hi all,

We will be introducing location as part of the registration in the future which will include county, state, province etc. We are getting a lot more non-UK traffic now and there are several ideas for the forums in the future which will include gender age etc. We used to have a footer in a previous incarnation of the forums so I can ask about this if users think it is worthwhile but with the above coming and the "About me" on the profile which anyone can read by clicking on your name it is unlikely. What other groups in the forums have done for now is edited their username to add UK/USA/CAN/AUS etc. You can do this by going to "My Account" at the top of the page, click Update your details and edit the "Nickname" but note, nicknames are limited to 15 characters.

Regarding adding hospital, surgeon etc, you can put these in your profile if you want or post them. The only thing we can't allow is details of private clinics or surgeons. We also cannot make this part of the registration or compulsory as the same registration is used for all groups in the forums.

If anyone ever needs to contact me or has any other suggestions for the forums there is an FAQ section at the bottom of every page in the forums with details how to get me as well as other info about the forums.

Regards,

Alan

Hi all,

I've just updated my info, what a great idea!

Good idea Colin. Done. What do you mean retire Renee ?

cheesygrin retire from the forum joanne - you're so cute to ask

Oh no. I understand people recover and move on with their lives but you will be missed so much when you decide it's time 😢

It was lovely to talk to someone who was not only in the same area but had the same surgeon. The weird part was that previously unknown to each other, I posted up a picture of my scar. In amonst the scar pictures was one that looked identical to mine and indeed we had the same surgeon. Funny eh?
