Hi, thank you for this forum. I'm 4 weeks post surgery. I had posterior repair and sling. First 3 weeks was terrible so much pain. But that was good because I spent most of the time in my bed reading this forum. I now have no pain and started to cook meals but I still need lots of rest after staning.
I'm going to see my family during school holiday. It's 2 hours flight and 7 hours flight each.
We booked flight before the surgery was set. And gynacoloist said it should be no problem and just be careful about blood clot in the flight.
Now I started to worry. Is the flight long enough to hurt my inside? Is there chances to have problem after 6 and 1/2 weeks surgery which is my flight day?
I would be staying Mum's home for 6 weeks and coming back. There, I would be easier than being mum myself.
I can cancel our flight but seeing my 90's grandparents is very impotent and the time is limited.
I appreciate any advice.
Hello tomoko I'm pleased to read you're recovering well. I'm not sure whether you're in the U.K. but if you are speak to your GP about taking Aspirin prior and after the flight also get some of those sexy DVT stockings unless you still have some from your surgery. The hardest part will be sitting for long periods that's the one thing I found gave me the most discomfort. If you don't have a history of DVT then I can't see there being any problems.
Wow, you are Matron, aren't you? Everyone here is talking about you. You are a super star here.
Thank you so much for the advice. Yes, my GP recommended to get Paracetamol for painkiller. It also works to thin my blood she said.
And I am going to wear sexy white pressure stocking given from the hospital. I normally walk around on the aircraft every 30 mins.
At another topic, some ladies tolked about stiches. I thought it would be disappear naturally. But some said it was found in undies. I have stiches outside and inside. I worry if it would hurt my inside and have to be taken out by doctor in my country during holiday.
Oh, so many worries. I wish I knew it would take months and months to heal after surgery. As many told, my gynacoloist also underestimate my healing time...
Gynaecologists very often underestimate just how long recovery takes and it's something that needs addressing because it causes so many problems and needless anxiety. Ideally patients should be informed before they have surgery and definitely before they sign the consent form.
Regarding your sutures, they are tough and well protected by your pelvic floor so don't give them a second thought when you're away. Some ladies do see them in their underwear or in the loo when they dissolve but many don't, I didn't so who knows where they disappeared to but what I do know was that they were no longer there when I had my post op check at 10 weeks.
Go away tomoko and enjoy your trip, it will help your recovery a great deal spending time with your family and if you're ever worried there's always this forum.
I can't thank enough to you and this forum. I'm in Australia and it is not easy to contact gynacoloist and it is almost impossible to contact my surgeon. I don't know what was going on without it during my tough time. I spent hours and hours, nights and nights reading here. I hope I can help out others like you and nice ladies.
I'm not gonna cancel my flights until last minutes.
Your experience will be so useful so hopefully you'll keep checking on the forum when you are fully recovered like several ladies do. I'm sure you won't need to cancel your flights x
Hi, I also flew a 9 hour flight 6 weeks after surgery. I made sure I wore my DVT socks and took an aspirin just to make sure of no DVT. I was fine until a few hours into the flight, when I felt tightness and aching, so I went to the toilet and took off my bra as I could not bear anything tight around me. It was ok, just some discomfort, no real pain. Just tiredness. I was ok the following day after a good nights sleep. So don't cancel your flight. I am sure you will be fine, it is just sitting in the same position for so long that makes you feel uncomfortable. Don't cancel your flight, you can rest when you get to your destination and you will be fine I am sure. You will be able to rest much more than you can at home. Good luck and hope you decide to go ahead with your trip.
You are right. People visit to get a seek when they are in pain. I'll stick with here another few years.
Thank you Elaine for sharing your experience. I'll make sure I wear something loose with DVT socks.
I'm 4 and half weeks now. I definitely turned the corner. I have no pain at all. Just I get tired easily. Maybe it's time to start wolking outside and rebuilting muscles.
