Hi all,
Hoping for a bit of help/advice if possible.
I am 32, around 5ft 11" and weigh 78kg. This is probably the fourth time I have suffered from gout. When I had it for the first time, it was following a few weeks of binging on beer, red wine and lots of BBQs during the World Cup in 2018. I woke up one morning and could hardly walk, I have genuinely never been in so much pain in my life, but had no idea it could be gout. I went to my GP and he quickly diagnosed it, prescribed me with indomethacin and it had completely cleared within 72 hours. Since then I have had a couple more attacks and again they were quickly remedied with the same medication. The most recent attack started in late October and still has not completely cleared as I am sat here writing this on 20th December. I was away in Lanzarote when the attack first started and unfortunately that meant I couldn’t get the indomethacin as the chemist said it was prescription only and instead just gave me Naproxen - this did nothing to help. When I got back home a few days later the pain was unbearable and was far the worst attack I have had. I spoke to my GP who prescribed me colchicine, I completed a course of this and although it helped, it did not completely clear it. I left it a week and spoke to my GP again, they have since given me 3 more courses of colchicine, and one course of a steroid (prednisolone I think it was called) and all this treatment still has not completely cleared the gout. The medication has helped, but it is still slightly red and tender to the touch. I am unable to get back to playing sports/running etc which is extremely frustrating. Surely an attack shouldnt last this long? Any suggestions/similar experiences would be gratefully received.
