I've been prescribed short courses of anti anxiety medication in the past and it helps with issues I'm having. The literature says it's only for short term use. Is it ever prescribed long term as I feel I need something to cope?
They are very strict with anti-anxiety meds these days because so many people have abused them which is awful for those who actually suffer and need them to cope. I myself took them for the past 8 years or so just as needed so never regularly and they do help, but I also was not on any type of antidepressant at the time either. I think they tend to lean towards antidepressants more now because the long term effects don’t seem to be as bad as the anti anxiety meds, also they are less addicting which is what I am taking now for the past 7 months and I have not needed any anxiety meds, so thats a good thing. Short term, and also to have in case of emergency panic attacks is the best way to go with those type of meds for sure.

not sure why that posted twice, sorry!
what do i do when i have tried many anti depressants and my body cannot tolerate them so,psych has left me with anti anxiety pills as his only option
I do feel that some people do need them long term, that aren’t just going to abuse them, they have really ruined it for us that do… My father has taken valium since I can remember so 25+ years and hes never abused them, and still takes them as needed, never had any bad long term effects.
Have you tried a therapist that specializes in anxiety disorders? To possibly help with some of it?
yes, i had over 20 cbt sessions and have tried three different therapists. i just cannot pit myself through what they ask of me. i am frightened of almost everything and dont know if its the usemofmthe diazepam whichnhas caused this or the central nervous system which is totally messed up with trials of anti depressants which always made me worse.
ted46777, what anti-anxiety meds are you currently taking?
Just ad hoc diazepam. Only for 2 days here and there.
