In 1983 I underwent a routine gall bladder removal. Unfortunately the surgeon's young assistant removed the artery forceps from the cystic artery before first opening them. A massive haemorrhage was instant and during the mayhem the surgeon unknowingly damaged the common bile duct.
I jaundiced the next day and two's weeks later he performed a choledocojejostomy, which sadly proved faulty and I was referred to the leading biliary expert Prof. L Blumgart.
He performed another Hapaticojejunostomy.
Since then I have had several Ascending Cholangitis attacks but thankfully no jaundice.
I am now after all this time suffering from acid reflux Barretts Oesophagus.
So it haunts me still now at 80.
