Wondering if there were any long term Flomax users here..I've been using it 3 years..
I am not a user of flomax. However, be aware that flomax has been implicated in floppy iris syndrome which is an issue during cataract surgery. If you have cataract surgery in the future, be sure to let the eye surgeon know that you are using or have used flomax. My understanding is that stopping flomax does not necessarily reverse floppy iris syndrome. I’m not sure if floppy iris can be diagnosed during a normal eye exam; but you might ask your optometrist at your next exam.
Alfuzosin has much less likelihood of causing floppy iris syndrome per a paper published by opthalmologists at UCSF (I’ve mentioned it a number of times on this blog).
I have been on Flomax for almost 10 years with no issues - except that it relaxes the prostate and associated muscles and this makes orgasms less intense.
you will get retro, as I did, switched to Alfuzosin and recovered most of my semen
I’ve been on it six years. Max dose. Works for me. Less intense orgasm, but hey, ya gotta pee, right? Occasionally get dizzy when rising too fast from a crouch.
Never got retro
Yes been on Flomax for 10 years plus with all the mentioned side effects, but I can live with them as this is the only drug that really works for me
I’ve been on it for several years.
It drastically reduced number of times I have to get up at night.
The only side effect for me is when I nap it takes me a couple of minutes to get my blood pressure back up enough for me to comfortably get up and walk away.
Never had retro with Flomax or Alfuzosin.
Rapaflo did give me retro.
Tell me, if you are sexually active does it cause RE, and does it work for you?
Yes for RE and Yes it is effective.
FYI, I found a study on Harvard Health where patients could take Flomax every other day and it worked for the prostate and would not cause RE. If I ever start taking Flomax (Tamsulosin) again I will try that. I have some Flomax but my present doctor reccommends Tolterodine (Avadort) for my prostate which is not suppose to cause RE.
Jim
Avodart causes something much worse than temporary RE. It causes permanent loss of libido and erectile disfunction that does not go away when you stop taking it.

google this and you will get answers to some of your issues, by Harvard Medical School:
" Your benign prostatic hyperplasia medication: When to consider a change"
Thanks for the info; did it do that to you ? I will be looking for that side effect very soon. It seems “damn if you do, or damn if you don’t” with medicines and procedures like TURP that makes getting old miserable. I guess we all have to find out what is best for each of us with bladder and prostate problems.
I printed that out and showed it to my Urologist and he just glanced at it.
Doctors do not like it when patients find useful information on the web that makes them look and feel bad. I will be trying the every other day dosage if I start taking Flomax again.
I am sure doctors hate web sites like this one but if they would read what is happening to us throughout the world they might get better educated.
Tamsulosin has vastly increased my flaccid hang which has been a pleasant surprise
Flow is better too.
There are a lot of medical and brand names for Alpha Blockers. They all appeared to have a maximum researched dose of 4mg or 400mcg (the same??) in 2013. If you will get a notification of a new post here can you let me know if you are aware if and when a higher dose was researched and approved. Barrie
Ive been on flomax for 4 yrs and ready to get off..Have you heard of a new procedure call rezum? It has high reviews.
