I’ve come here asking for advice and opinions about a skin abrasion since I am currently without insurance and cannot afford a dermatologist.
I’ve had this spot on my chest for a couple of years now. It doesn’t hurt but it does go from scabby and raw, rarely sometimes a spot of blood, and sometimes it subsides to being barely visible. I am starting to get very worried it is melanoma as I have very sensitive skin and various moles and psoriasis.
I am honestly to the point of being quite terrified about it and I can’t post a picture here, or at least don’t know how. But if anyone with any knowledge can help, opinions and advice are greatly appreciated. Thank you all!
A spot that repeatedly scabs, heals, then comes back over a long period of time is definitely something worth getting checked when you’re able to, especially if it’s changing or occasionally bleeding. It may not be melanoma there are other skin conditions that can do this too but persistent non-healing spots shouldn’t be ignored.
If cost is the biggest issue, you could try an urgent care clinic, community health clinic, or see if there are low-cost dermatology programs in your area. Also, many skin cancer organizations offer free screening events. Try not to panic, but I do think it’s important to have someone look at it in person.
If spot keeps scabbing, bleeding, and coming back for years, you should check up to medical clinic. It might not be cancer, but don’t ignore it.
