I am still in the beginning stages of being diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. I went to the Dr. because I thought i had developed Hypertension - my blood pressure is fine but my Thyroid reading is .05.
I am still waiting for the results of a second lot of blood tests so am not actually being treated for anything at the moment but I have been doing some investigating on line and according to what I've found I appear to be a textbook case for Hyperthyroidism EXCEPT that I can't stop putting on weight and i can't diet or exercise any of it off.
I feel completely frustrated and would really like to hear from anyone who might be able to shed some light on my particular situation. I have lots of questions but mostly (in the short term) what I want to know is. If once I have my Thyroidism under control will I also be able to get my weight under control? I can't seem to find any information about treating Hyperthyroidism and weight gain.
Thanks.
Hello Chelle, it will be interesting to know your other blood results. I always write down my T4 T3 and TSH and them compare them each time. I think most people lose weight when they are first diagnosed but I have heard of some putting it on. Hopefully when you get a definate diagnosis and start treatment,, your weight will stabilise. Do let us know how you get on and hope you are feeling better soon. Bess.
Hello Chelle. As Bess says it will be interesting to know your other blood results. You can't really take one result in isolation. I lost a lot of weight when I was first diagnosed last April/May, and I haven't put any back on, but we're all different.
If you are definitely hyper, once you start treatment you should begin to feel better. Let us know how you get on.

Hi I was told I had over active thyroid back in Oct. I have had several blood tests which confirm my T3 and T4 getting worse but have got to wait until Feb for a hospital appointment to start treating it! Like you I have every symptom APART from losing weight. I seem to be piling it on and struggling to shift it :?
I hope you get things sorted soon
