Getting nervous about my op.Given the date 12 weeks ago and now only 5 weeks to go .Looking for other ladies with a similar date for their op to follow a recovery plan together.I am also having a large fibroid removed and I have been on a 3 month course of Zoladex and Prostap which I finish this week.

Hi. I'mnot due to go in until 6th May as iI was deleted from list by mistake. Was told early April originally. I'mgoing to have a hysterectomy and ovaries temoved. I know how you feel I'm nervous too. Its only natural. I had investigation and release of ovaries from other organs in November which took me 3 weeks to get over and that was without any organs being removed. All you can do is listen to your body and rest to get better. I took zoladex for one month but couldn't have another dose due to reaction but that will make your op easier as reduces fibroid size doesn't it?. Are you having bikini line cut and are you having ovaries removed? Wishing you all the best but happy to share notes even if not exactly the same time x
I'm sure that there will be someone along that is around your dates soon but in the meantime I'm 4 weeks post TAH for fibriods so if I can be of any help... The waiting really is by far the worst part, keep strong you will be fine xx
I am having TAH Bilateral salpingo-soophoretomy and removal Omentum
on the 16 March about 3 weeks before you
Hi Teresa
I'm having my op on 9th April to remove multiple large fibroids. Had 4 Zoladex implants. at the hospital tomorrow for my pre op assessment. Will be having a total abdominal hysterectomy. I am a little nervous. Would be good to keep in touch.
Crumbs is it 4 weeks already? Where did that time go? Hope all going well for you?
Phoebe
I know it really has flown! The first two weeks I could honestly see almost a daily improvement, week 3 was a bit of a down week but now this week things are improving again
I even cooked a full evening meal last night
Hi Nicola,
Hope that your pre op went well?Your operation is the closest date to mine and also with the fibroids aswell so we are in the same situation at the same time so it will be great to keep in touch. Please forgive me for a couple of weeks if i don't send any messages as i am going through a rough time at the momemt as my Mum is in hospital which is a worry.I am due to go away for a week on Sun and at the moment i don't know how long she will be in for.(At least i am seeing what life on the wards is like these days and some of the food doesn't look too bad either)Iam seeing my doctor today for advice about my op to what i should expect, how long she feels i will probably be off work and whether to have my ovaries removed and generally for a chat as i haven't seen her since last Sept when all this kicked off.I am also having my last Prostap injection today.
Sorry i sent it in error before i finished the message.I just wanted to say hi to everyone else who have replied to my questions. It is really appreciated and i wish you all well with your operations and recovery. This forum has bee a godsend as i have learnt so much, please keep messaging.I feel so low at the moment and i need all the support that i can.
Thank you
luv
Teresa

Hi Teresa
I have my op on Fri 3rd April. Good Friday. Having TAH with ovaries
removed. Dreading it but at the same time relief from severe pelvic pain due to a failed ablation. Our ops are very close, good luck with yours x
Hi Teresa, i'm apparently having my op on Mon 13th April (i won't believe it though until i wake up in recovery as been cancelled 4 times now) I'm having TAH but want to keep my ovaries.
I think i'm quite lucky in my outlook as i'm not scared, worried or anything just want someone to say its either happening or its not as have been living my life around maybes since early January.
I think i'm one of the lucky ones as i'm not in any pain but have a very large fibroid (which is no problem) and dysfunctional uterine bleeding (bleed heavily all the time) which is stopped by taking 3 Northisterine tablets a day (i hate taking any type of drugs so cannot wait for day i stop taking them), i'm actually looking forward to a couple of weeks off work and intend to make the most of it as will be going back 6 weeks after op, i'm sure this time will fly by.
Hi Teresa
Just to let you know, pre op went fine and have got all my instructions, got a bit anxious and tearfull, think it is becaue it is now real and learnt that hubby cannot stay with me he has to drop me in reception in admissions and leave, was hoping he could of stayed until i was a least settled in. Fingers crossed it is not cancelled at the last minute !!
Hope your mum is doing ok and you have a nice week away . Speak soon and let me know how you are. Oh by the way where abouts in the country/world are you as this forum is universal
Hi judy
Hope all goes well, let us know how you get on I would be very interested as having the same procedure on the 9/4.
Take care x
Hi Neversataystill, firstly I hope that this time is THE time! Goodness you have been on a rollercoaster! Do you HAVE to go back to work at 6 weeks? Just asking as I am at 5 weeks now and I could not imagine being ready to go back anytime yet. And yes the time has flown! xx
Hi Nicola,
Had my last injection yesterday, all ok.Spoke to my doctor about my op and she advised me to have my ovaries removed as i wasn't sure. She thinks i will probably be off work for 3 months.I live in Godalming in Surrey. My Mum is coming out tomorrow, she seems brighter. Thanks for your kind wishes.
Hi I am having TAH with removal of ovaries on 1st April. Feeling nervous but know it's for the best as I suffercwith adenomyosis and have been extremely anaemic. Hope all goes well x
Unless there are complications then yes i have to return after 6 weeks, i work for a council and they have had quite a few women have the op and i would say 90% of them have returned after 6 weeks so a precedent has been set, even my manager had the op 2 years ago and she was back after 6 weeks. If you require more time off you are visited at home by 2 managers and an occupational nurse to assess the situation. Thats another reason i'm a bit worried as i think my belly swelling won't have gone down and i won't fit in my uniform lol
Oh sweet, I've just replied to you on this subject on a different thread. I too work for local council and can honestly say they have been fantastic with me. More than once I've been told "Take as long as you need" I've had three home visits already, two with just my manager, mainly to offer support and see if I'm ok, almost like a social call! And another with two managers as a stage 1 sickness, but that again was just a formality and to offer futher support on a fomal basis.
You really should not be compared to anyone else with this op as it depends on type of procedure, age, post op problems etc etc on your recovery speed, every one is different. I would contact your union and put them in the picture just incase you need to call on them later on. Good luck xxx
I am quite lucky that my union rep is also my colleague/friend and she has offered to be with me every step of the way if my Manager and or HR cause problems. Work have been supportive in their own way but due to severe anemia last year cos of amount of blood i kept losing i had to have 2 months off so they are looking at my Bradford score (don't know if your work uses that as well?) I've only had 1 day off sick since April 14 and that 1 day put me well over my limit and has caused all the hassle as they say they cannot deviate from the procedures for one person whatever the circumstances as that isn't fair on others. I can understand their logic but if i'm not ready after 6 weeks i think they will have to just bear with me.
Although the staff nurse that did my last pre op assessment said based on my fitness levels, size and positive attitude that she would probably expect me to be back at work in 4 weeks (mainly seated job with no lifting) so perhaps the last 2 weeks will just be a holiday, i think not lol
Well good luck sweet. I'm not sure why your council don't seem to be able to judge each case on it's own merits and on your own history, that seems to be how it works for us. Stage 1 is a formality but from there onwards it is managers discretion. Don't get me wrong that doesn't mean you can get away with taking time off for no reason or that there is any kind of favouritism, it just seems sensible that a manager that is at the sharp end so to speak, actually knows the individual and the circumstances is actually able to have a huge input into how the sickness procedure is implemented. Fingers crossed for you xx
