Hi all,
I am new to this forum.by reading a post in this forum I am taking loperamide, probiotics, psyllium husk capsules together .stool consistent is better now.but I have lightheadedness and dizziness.so Wil I continue it or not?
I a chronic ibs-d patient.please reply.
Thanks everyone.
do you have any other medical conditions? what is your diet like? do you keep hydrated?
Thank you very much leeniepie for your quick reply.I have no other medical condition.I have been suffering from ibs-d for 27 years. My main problem is morning diarrhea 3 to 4 times daily.I have lower right abdominal mild pain always.I can't eat fish, meat, milk, eggs, curd due to diarrhea. My main diet is white rice, dal, and various vegetables. My stool consistency is porridge type with mucus.I drink sufficient water.
your dizzyness could be down to your diet, it is very limited. meat and fish do not normally cause diarrhoea, infact plain chicken and white fish and eggs are very good foods to eat when you have diarrhoea.
psyllium husks can act as both a stool bulker and a laxative, have you tried stopping them to see what happens? also what probiotics do you take? a lot of people find they actually make ibs-d worse.
Actually leeniepie I have tried many supplement such as glutamine, zinc picolinate, fish oil etc.but in vain.I came across this website and read a post"Immodium and ibs-d" from this post I learn to take these three together and I am pleased with result with in ten days.so I want to give a try another 15 days to psyllium husk. The probiotics I have taken contains Streptococcus faecalis 30 million cells, lactobacillus 50 million cells, clostridium butyricum 2 million cells, bacillus mesentericus 1 million cell
Thanks.
I have used loperamide for 5 years now (daily). It's helps
Also I am on a low dose amitriptyline which helps tremendously
I suffered from diarrhea every single morning. I still get attacks but much essential frequent!
Robbie,
What dose of loperamide have you taken daily?
I amalso taking aculip-h tab(amitriptyline 12.5 mg,chlordiazepoxide 5mg)
Thanks.
I take 2 loperamide at night. The doctor said this shouldn't work as loperamide only works for 6 hours. I found it was just a bit better for firming things up
Maybe you are taking too many medications and you are getting side effects. Maybe cut out the psyillium and probiotics and stick with Imodium.
I take one at lunch and one at dinner
Thanks.
Yes that may be a cause.psyllium husk works for me.so I give it a try for 15 days.
Thanks.
Hopefully you get some results. Diet change causes my intestines to go wild with constipation, vomiting or diarrhoea.
If you take loperamide with psyllium husk there is no question of constipation.Diet which suits you be taken for few days then gradually add your trigger foods.
Thanks.
I don't have any IBS trigger foods; only one or two intolerances that I always had even before IBS. My stomach and bowel have always reacted to the slightest change of diet prior to IBS too. Even someone else's cooking causes chsnges. That's why I don't add anything new to my diet.
I have decided to stop loperamide, probiotics ,and psyllium for some days due to sever dizziness.
Please get B12, zinc, and vitamin D checked. Also read up on other vitamin deficiencies. Some are caused by IBS but others cause IBS. I suffered for years and found out I was missing some key vitamins even though I ate a very healthy well balanced diet.
