My doctor prescribed Lorazepam for me to use as needed for my anxiety/panic attacks. Does anyone on here have any experiences they can share about taking Lorazepam?
I haven't tried lorazepam but I have tried, and now on again a different benzodiazepine. These types of medications are typically used short term - maybe 3 months tops. Its so you can retrain your brain to understand there is no cause for fear by giving you a break from the panic while you do normal daily tasks. Ideally you taper off while still exposing yourself to triggers. It can be helpful if used properly. I was on Xanax which was wonderful but horrific once it wore off. I'm currently on clonazepam. Its still fast acting but lasts much longer than Xanax and the crash isn't so harsh. I think similar to your medication. Its helped but still finding I'm having panic attacks. I've been on a minimal dose for almost two weeks and my doctor just approved for a higher dose so hopefully it'll be effective while I continue my therapy. The plan is to add an SSRI or something similar once I taper off. I know due to the severity of my condition, I'll always need medication so I need something safe long term. So with that said, yes, benzos can be great but you still have to do your part with CBT, exposure therapy, or finding a safer long term medication option.
Thank you for your response.
