hi all
6 days since thr and have no appetite, anyone have the same and how long did it last?
Hi!
i had no appetite for about a week or so. I thought it was the hospital food but I struggled at home with the food my husband prepared and he is a good cook.
in the end it was freshly squeezed orange juice and a boiled egg that I first enjoyed. For several days I could only stomach small quantities of really simple food.
i thought I had lost weight but found I had gained weight in hospital - I was horrified! Now I weigh less than I did before my operation.
i am eating healthily - don't want anything greasy or heavy. I seem to be doing ok and I am moving well. Increasing the number of steps I do daily.
i had a THR. I had a spinal block and sedation just under 3 weeks ago.
best wishes,
Marion
Hi,
I completely lost my appetite for several days post op. I did have a general and was really tired and sore, so put it down to that. I too lived on fruit and simple foods such as yogurt and biscuits for a few days. My husband's chicken stew and new potatoes got me eating again!
It took a while for my appetite to return and my doctor recommended prote in shake to help ensure that my protein intake was high enough to support a healthy recovery. They helped but I also found that nuts and fruit were good - esp Brazil nuts which has selenium which helps the immune system and may act as a catalyst for many vitamins and minerals to permit their absorption.
Bottom line - find things to temp you as this is NOT the time to worry about your weight.
Hugs,
L
I lost my appetite for over two weeks and lived off cake and chocolate. Not ideal but I didn't want anything else but the odd spoonful of normal food. Back to normal now five weeks post op but still small meals. I suppose I'm not moving as much so don't need the calories!!
Overall lost a few lbs even with my chocolate based diet!!
Go with what your body tells you X
I also lost my appetite after my THR but I put it down to constipation which was a real problem, so I just couldn't fancy any food at all for a good few days.
Yup i am about 3 weeks pist and i like breakfast
Lunch a little but every few days luv lunch and dinners are tiny
I eat paleo real foods so fruit eggs protein veggies but yes even I had some pudding and a cookie
Your body is healing and take care of yourself
I still use vital proteins collagen powder in water daily
May help who knows
Eat well b well 🌞🌞🙋🎉 jozie
3 weeks post op sorry bad spelling
Hello Sarah, fridge full of chocolate, hope I fancy it soon. Everyone keeps asking what I fancy, can't say there's really anything. Still could be a lot worse.
Hi jo at least your spelling mistakes made me laugh. Thank god I'm not the only one that sends funny texts.
Oh goodness - some of my posts have been doozers. The predictive text gets all of us at times and on a phone the ads often block what you are typing ..... some of the ones I sent at night while slowly going stir crazy ... 😁😂😄
The appetite thing is tough though - esp as we can't just pop out to the store to browse and see what might tempt us!
My surgeon really emphasized the need for a good protein rich diet though. Thank goodness for shakes which helped me through the first weeks.
Good luck to everyone suffering through this stage.

Hi there I am Ann from York, had my hip op four days ago now back home yes appetite was depressed by being very constipated and result of full anaesthetic, now after having taken lactulose liquid and trying to eat decent fresh food feel lot better even pain killers knock you off your food, keep positive, after all this is a major operation, best wishes let me know how you get on? Xx
Hi Ann, was only home two days then had diarrhoea, my GPs said ibuprufin could cause it so replaced with paracetamol. Much better now, appetite slowly returning, but sometimes have upset tummy feeling. Can't wait to be able to sleep on my side and get better nights sleep. All in all though, things quite good. Hope it's going well for you.
Hi .it's my 10th day..still no appetite...not much sounds appealing either....I know I lost a little weight..I don't want to lose anymore.
It seems appetite loss is a normal part of the post surgery marathon due to the anasthesia effects. My post surgery appetite difficulty lasted two weeks and resulted in a 15 lb weight. The good news, all is well, appetite returned and lost weight regained. I am 14 weeks post surgery with zero difficulties. The Lord's blessings and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Regards RJ
Thank u RJ! I'm glad all is well with u!!
Hi Joyce - try shakes (regular or protein). The main thing is to keep your protein intake up plus vitamin and minerals protecting your immune system (just Google these - easy find).
Good luck.
Ps I lost 5 pounds before checking w my GP. Don't wait that long.
Hugs
Hi, bet, things going ok apart from very swollen leg. Appetite still poor but better after constipation was relieved with two doses of lactulose syrup. And a lot of wind think that's why appetite is not back to normal, but as I need to loose four stone that's good for me. Don't sleep for long either clips coming out today thank goodness they are really itchy. Best wishes Ann
Whoops - weight loss was 15 lb!
