Loss of pigment on penis tip. Any ideas.

hi all ive had this loss of pigment on the tip of my penis for a while. Ive had many sti checks and all negative. one doctor said it was probably vitiligo but any idea what might of caused this or if it could be something else. thanks

Hi pete,
Vitiligo is simply loss of pigmentation but the skin architecture remains the same. Apart from the depigmentation have you noticed anything else, such as a tighter foreskin or part of it looking white and scarred, the glans feeling tighter or the pee hole starting to narrow? The differential diagnosis is lichen sclerosis if any of the other symptoms are present.

hi thank you for your detailed reply. much appreciated. other symptoms ive had over the time have been scrotum rashes which ive treated with creams and a tightening of the foreskin slightly yes.

Hi Pete,
I can’t explain the scrotal rash, but the abnormal appearance of the glans and the tightening of the foreskin suggest that you may be developing lichen sclerosis. You should ask your GP to refer you to a urologist or dermatologist to confirm this. If you live in the UK, just make an appointment to attend your local GU Medicine/Sexual Health Clinic.

hi thank you again for your response. I have ordered a online uti test kit and will contact my doctor come monday. i have attached a picture of the scrotum redness ive been dealing with. if you have any opinion on that id much appreciate it.

Probably a fungal infection (tinea cruris, crotch rot); try Canesten cream for it. Lichen sclerosis needs a proper physical examination to confirm; it can’t be done with an online or phone consult with your doctor.
