Beaucoup de crampes !

Having Crohns increases the likelihood it is magnesium:

“Magnesium deficiency is not uncommon among the general population and can be even more common among people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) - Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and microscopic colitis.”

Possibly you were just about OK before but the exess loss of magnesium due to pred has tipped you over the edge.

Check it doesn’t clash with any meds you are on - even the small amount in tonic (and it IS very small) matters.

People with lung problems often develop heart failure problems because of the BP implications and effect on the heart. So my husband was told by the cardiologist who says it is because of only having one lung.

Your blood magnesium level may be OK but the amount in the muscles not - the body scavenges magnesium from the muscles to keep the blood level up. By the time your blood level falls you are REALLY depleted.

Additional to PMRpro’s post re hypokalemia, its not a good idea to self medicate to improve potassium levels. Get proper advice from doctor - if you need a supplement they’ll prescribe the right level, if not you should be able to improve the level through diet.

I completely agree; you don’t play with electrolytes. I take RX potassium 20 meq 3 X day, and have my blood work checked regularly.

wicked smart!!!i should have taken LATIN

I soak in epsom salt bath ( two cups added to water) once or twice a week. I also wear knee socks to bed. Warmth helps.

Some tonic water has lots of sugar. Check the contents!

hi Peg…only problem with the knee socks (and warmth overall), is I’m SO hot all the time, I’m always looking for a way to cool off! lol
