Low back pain

First night home. 4 good hours. Then 2 but awoke with awful low back pain. I didn't have this in hospital. Physio said not to put cushion under back.

Good morning ... I was just thinking of you..

let me be the first one to welcome you home !!!!  You might have to get used to your own mattrass again - 4 hours straight is not too bad ....

try to take it easy today ... and be gentle with your self ... lots of new experiences are awaiting you

warm hug

I had this happen it could be because you have laid in one position for a while also the mattresses in hospital have air pumped through so you don't get bed sores have plenty of pain killers to hand and I found it helped when would massage it and still does

Thanks Marilyn. Don't think I had airflow mattress but although I slept well prob not as long as it was so easy to sit up with hospital bed. I was bought one of those back massagers for Christmas might be a good idea to take it out. No hubby too massage.

Thank you as you say new experiences in /out car stairs twice.

I have my 80year old sister and a daughter here for a week so I am lucky and have to try to be patient when they want to do too much for me.

Welcome home, you are back in a different bed, but to have 4 hours sleep on the firsst night is brilliant I stacked pillows up so that I was half sitting and could get comfortable. It will pass it is just all the changes I think xx

Physio in Hosp said lie flat as possible. I will get no follow up physio just do the exercises in booklet. As Renee reminded me a lot of new stuff yesterday too. Car stairs. Afraid to take naproxen as well as paracetamol /cocodamol as blamed that for very high bp. Bp normal again thank God. Hope you are continuing to do well and not getting too lost.

Hi attractac

Glad you are home safe and sound

God, I wish I could sleep for 4 hours in a stretch - think I've done well with 2 and I am 3.5 weeks post op

I had terrible low back pain and I felt it was from lying on my back - not so bad now - just experiment with different pillow positionsnd combinations. You've had a big op and a lot of referred pain from hip.

You'll get pains in all sorts of places you would not think would be related.

It gets better, believe me, but those first couple of weeks can be trying

Take care and sleep whenever you feel the urge - that's when you are healing

Kind regards Linda xx

Try a fiam wedge or piling pillows to make a gentle slope so your tirso is at arround 20 - 30 degree angle instead of flat. Xx

Aargh - fat fingers - that should read foam wedge and torso!

so sorry but LOL ....you made my day and the day is still young !!!

Hi,at least your home! You will take time to sleep! It's not easy.I would advise you to nap in the day! Please give your self time! You've had a major op!! Regards Amanda

Hi,

First night home is lovely, isn't it!

I found that a pillow under my knees when lying on my back. And between knees when you are allowed on your sides.

Can't understand why you've not been offered follow-up physio. Ah well, keep doing the exercises!

Have a good recovery!

I find Volterene non prescription pain cream to be very effective for aches & pains. the 2% is really good, might as well get two tubes right away. It takes about 30 minutes to work but it DOES work. I used it specifically for the back pain you are describing and also for butt cheek pain. It is really wierd you will get small aches and pains all over, even on the leg that wasn't operated on.

It has a slightly different name in the UK but your pharmacist will know. It really works great together with non prescription pain pills. After 2 weeks I was able to mainly take the codeine pain pills at night.

I got back ache when sleeping when i left hospital.  I realised inthe hospital I had

slightly raised the head ofthe bed and slept more comfortable. my husband went out and bought a sponge triangle from disabled shop to put under my pillows which

raised my head very slightly but gave me much better sleep and no ache in back. your physio says to lay flat but in hospital they told me ok to raise head slightly if helped me sleep and did that in their bed. so obviously differing advice.

I also put pillows under my knees and under my ankles and can sleep very well.

good luck

Just had a lovely hour sleep there.

Thanks Rosie. Just had a lovely hour there.
