I am 51 and post menopausal. I had a TKR in April. I was put on low dose Bayer aspirin after surgery. I was taking 2 81mg twice a day for 3 1/2 weeks. Six weeks after I stopped taking it I experienced post menopausal bleeding. I know this would not happen to the guys but did it happen to any of the ladies that had a TKR and was put on a blood thinner?
Yes I was in the same situation. I'm 61 and on blood thinners after my TKR, this caused slight bleeding during those first weeks after my op. I was told not to worry. Purely hormonal. Same as the hairs on the knees which happens to the women as well. Again normal and hormonal. I am now 13 weeks post op and all has settled down. Good luck
Hi I think that the answer will be no but I would like to ask you the following question.
Were you taking any blood thinners prior to knee surgery?
No but I have had hormonal coil fitted about 9 months before my TKR which they had to know about. When I told them they said that such bleeding might occur.
Thanks Lynn33221, I am 11 weeks tomorrow. Went to my GYN and she asked if I had taken any blood thinners. Stupid me said no because I totally forgot about the aspirin. I then had to go for the total work up ei ultrasound, internal, and uterine biopsy. When everything came back clear I remember the aspirin. However, only being on it 3 1/3 weeks I was still convinced it was something else. She chalked it up to stress. So because I spaced on the aspirin in had two weeks of gynecology hell. LOL. learned my lesson for next years knee replacement.
thanks again,
Jane
No, I was put on the aspirin for three weeks after my TKR. I had not used aspirin prior to surgery.
Hi Janey, I'm 50,also post menopausal and wasn't on any blood thinners before surgery but was for 3 weeks post op. I did not have a bleed but had very achey breasts like I was going to. I also have a coil fitted my gp too said it was to do with surgery and blood thinners. Just another thing not told before hand.
Thanks for the info sue37592. I was freaking out when it started because I had been 18 months with out my period. I had no idea that aspirin could do that but I now know for my left knee next year. I've never heard of the coil. Is that like an iud?
jane
Hi Jane, neither did I. It was only I was at Gp for more painkileers and I happened to mention it. If you see your dr mention it just to be on safe side. I too had not had a period or any symptoms for over 2 years so to have sore tender breasts again was unexpected. Yes the coil is a type of iud. Best wishes. x
Sue, did I miss something? don't understand why you had to get an IUD before knee replacement surgery.
sorry no had one for a few years sorry Jane, the GP said it and op and blood thinners just made hormonal changes confusing my body x
Oh, ok. I was trying to wrap my head around it. Thank you for clarifying. Since it stopped and all test results came back clear I'm giving it up to aspirin, surgery, and stress. I must say I'm glad it's over with. Well, until next year.
Have u got a date for other knee. I haven't it has to be confirmed in march 17 and date set. Night jane
It will be sometime in April. After my husbands busy season. He's a CPA.
good night ,
Sue
