Low low low

Thought I was doing well but today feel as though I've hit the doldrums really fed up and not getting much sleep.  Sleep patterns all over the place.  Anyone else felt the same? X

Hi Crossy24

i had a THR in Jan 2015 and didn't sleep properly for at least 5 weeks afterwards and even then the pain would wake me every few hours. Was prescribed diazepam when it was driving me to distraction but that made things worse as it really 'drugged' me up and made me hallucinate! Anyway I'm sleeping so much better now as I progress in my recovery and get a good 7 hours a night!

How ow long has it been since your op?

Last night I woke at 2.30am and didn't go back to sleep, I have been given a mild sleeping tablet and to be quite honest I find it doesn't work, also I a setup and now the left hip is playing up, I had my op on 11th may I go back to see the consultant on 25th June personally I don't think I will be going back just yet, I am a cashier in a large supermarket so will have to be careful of the hip dislocating

constantly! im up and down like a yoyo. Dont worry, its perfectly normal after any surgery to feel a bit emotionally unstable but after a major op with such a long recovery like a hip replacement, its not surprising that we tend to have such low days. our lives have been turned upside down and our bodies have been through hell.

Give yourself a hug and do something you will enjoy. big hugs. tomorrow is a whole new day

Hi.  I know how you feel.  I am 9 weeks post op and my sleep in all over the place. Having to do half days at work and Doctor given me something to help relax me, but not sure it is doing anything.  I think just have to be patient.  It will get better, just remember no more pain from the hip! Best wishes Sarah

Getting 2 hrs sleep here and there. Makes me miserable as im up wandering round the house at midnght then 3am then 5am. Decided it might help to get out of the house so today did a bit of retail therapy and had lunch with my sister. Totally wore me out so I laid in sofa for a nap but still only got 2 hrs.

I'm nearly 7 weeks and do not sleep through the night. I do take painkillers before I go to sleep and that helps relax me and I get a few hours but I always wake up early morning and then its on and off till I get up. I'm also still on my back as althought the restriction was lifted and I thought great i found my back ached above the hip when I was on my side.

I got to the point that I was so tired I could'nt think, had a few nights sleep but back to same old, same old. Like you, feeling very down tonight but we both know "Tomorrow is another day", sleep a bit longer Scarlet, I will try to too do the same and we can compare notes tomorrow. Dot xx

Think we're all the same bit here and a bit there. Although for the last 2 nights I have managed to clock 5 hours in a row. Not sure how long it will last. I have found though that to have just an hour in the afternoon has helped a lot.

Hi Crossy,

try Panadol night time. I used to take it instead of my last dose of painkillers for the day.  It has a mild sedative in it and the effect does not wear off like the herbal ones. I don't need them now.  At 8 weeks everything is back to pre- op normal, without the bother of a worn out hip, that is.

Sleep well,

Olive

So tired last night was awful, woke at 2.30am and have been awake since, trying the paradox night time, was given a mild sleeping tablet because it is useless, also a hotmilk, did think about putting some brandy in it. Was concerned that it might react against the panadol

Morning Crossy .... Weird how our sleeping pattern is so off ... and I don't think it is just the laying on the back - in the beginning I was able to take naps during the day, but now, even that is sparse ....and since the majority of "us" is dealing with this, it probably is normal    .. I don't dare to drink alcohol because of the meds .. well, here is to another day .... weather (here in Holland) is going to be gorgeous - enjoy and take it easy .... be cranky with gusto !!!! big hug

2weeks. Think I'm hoping for too much too soon!

Thanks for all the sup port and great replies. Think we are all pretty much going through the same thing - another thing you're not really told about!!! )

Hi poor you! I am 13weeks post op on Monday and even now find a nap in the afternoons helps! I suffer from anxiety as well! Also I am a carer for my hubby! Take it easy regards Amanda

Well, yeah possibly you could be wanting to much too soon... I took what I feel is a long time to get past the stage of not sleeping and I thought  at times I might never sleep a full night again.  I think mine went on for 7-8 weeks.... But as we know everyone is different! Nap when you can is my advice!

Know just how you feel! BUT last night for some reason I slept for 6 hours and woke at 4am feeling so much better. I doubt it will happen again but lovely just once in a while. We're all in the same boat I guess. Let's hope that in a few months time, this will all be a distant dream.

On the positive side, managed to pick first strawberries for tea ( from my high bed garden! No bending!).

Xx

Just love home grown strawberries, sadly the weeds took ober and then the blackbirds had a good feed but I have enjoyed the sunshine and cut some of the lawn, think I will try a glass of chilled white tonight and report back on sleep tomorrow. Perhaps its time we "hippies" wore flowers in our hair ;-) xx

Hi Dot,

That takes me back.... I wish!

Xx

Ooo, me too Anna, me too ...
