Hi all, I have just had my annual round of blood tests done, all came back perfectly normal including all the thyroid function tests. The sodium test however came back lower than the recommended level and has done over the last few years. Has anyone else had similar results or is this just true for me.
It is strange how one keeps hoping for something tangible to explain the pain, discomfort and fatigue one is suffering.
Have as good as possible weekend everyone, and keep on surfing.

Hi Meg; as is usual with Fibro, all of our bloods etc are Normal.. and the talk re our Thyroid functions are more to do with the CFS, and they too usually come back "within normal range" ..so No, I have never had Low Sodium....do you put Salt into your cooking/add salt to your food before eating your meal? That is what I would probably do, if it were an issue with my bloods....I know there is all the info re "not to put salt in cooking"..."salt is bad for us" etc...but we do need sodium for our muscles to work properly....sodium draws essentials into our cells, and also draws out the waste from our cells into our blood stream......did your doctor comment...suggest that you do anything re this decreased levels??........Bron
Hi Meg
I dont think low sodium is directly connected to the fibro. Low sodium is sometimes caused by diuretic meds or sometimes liver issues or disease. Generally a minor low count is not considered problematic and may just need a quick 'tweak' of your diet etc. If the problem is severe your doctor would have reacted with further tests or medications I guess so it's probably nothing too much to worry about. Are you on heart pressure meds where you have to take diuretics too? Sometimes sweating a lot (eg sports activities etc) and drinking lots of fluids to cool down can do it because you're sweating out salt and replacing with water with no salt. Did you doc recommend salt tabs or changes to diet?
My last lot came back with enlarged blood cells and various deficiencies he recommended lots of green veg and more fruit so I'm making smoothies with frozen spinach, fresh kale, blueberries, raspberries, pineapple , cashew nuts, chia seeds and coconut oil.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts. No I am not on any medication that would affect sodium levels but I do drink at lot of water, and so I obviously need to increase my salt in my diet. It is funny as it goes against all we read and hear that salt is bad for you but I must say I like salty food, maybe my body is trying to tell me. Shelagh your recipe sounded yum hope it helps you. Our household favourite is Kale chips with a sprinkle of salt, of course. Please have a good weekend everyone.
