Lower back pain after THR

Hi everyone, i'm 60 and just had a right THR a week ago and came home after three days feeling quite well, obviously dosed up on painkillers. However, since yesterday I've had severe lower back pain and pelvic pain on right side which is making me a bit worried! I'm doing my exercises as advised, but am wondering why this pain would suddenly appear out of nowhere? Has anyone else experienced this at all? If so, does it go away eventually?? Maybe I'm too ambitious?! Comments welcome! 😐

I’ll try this again, as I’m not sure my response went through. My condition is very similar to yours. I am 60 as well, and have always been in excellent health until a couple of years ago. I had my surgery (left THR) in February and seemed to be progressing as expected. I did the exercises faithfully and in April began walking laps for exercise. I felt well, but still had to us a cane most of the time. Now, six months post surgery, I find I have pain in my lower back, the other hip and both knees, as well as frequent headaches. My doctor ordered blood work and found that I tested positive for Sjogren’s Syndrome, which, coupled with osteoarthritis, seems to be the issue of the pain. Perhaps have a check up and see if your lower back pain is unrelated to the surgery. Sorry I couldn’t be more positive. Good luck!

Hi there,

I'm 14 weeks post op and whilst I don't have the back pain as much now, I got it a lit post op. My surgeon and physio both said it's as my body realigns itself as I have been walking in one way and am now walking differently.

I now get it occasionally after a 10 mile walk but it's rare so don't worry too much

Best wishes

Lucy

Hi, yes I was the same but 2 years after my hip op. Saw the doc who referred me to see a Specialist - said that the pain was through limping and putting strain on my back. I now wear a special corset - no more pain I'm pleased to say. Just need my limp sorting out - trying to find the correct heel lift to rectify it, Maybe this is your problem?

Regards

Jean

hi kim sorry to hijack-i have similar issues-lower back pain, knee ache, not the other hip, though, thank goodness,im 7 months away from my op,i also often feel unwell and depressed for not much reason,i have just had back x rays done but wont get results for a while.was just wondering what the treatment is for sjogrens?thankyou x

Hi guys, many thanks for your replies. Seemed I was a little cocky a couple of days ago, thinking I didn't need as much pain relief and so reduced my Codeine and Paracetamols by half. Too soon I think and have now upped the dose to what it was. I guess there's a reason why they prescribe that dose isn't there! Little by little is the message, also my bloods were quite low and as they didn't have supplies of blood for a transfusion at the hospital I was prescribed iron tablets which I started taking yesterday. I will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks to you all who replied.  Only way is up now I hope - need to be able to walk the dog again!😊

Jean, hope it was just a case of trying to run before I can walk for me at the moment!  Taking it easy now - see how it goes. Walking better today - still very uncomfortable getting in and out of bed/car but hey-ho it's early days isn't it! Hope you get better soon! x

That's very heartwarming to hear Lucy. I want to be able to walk for miles again too - my lovely 4 yr old golden retriever Lilly is eager for me to get back to normal!!! There's pressure for you! 😉
