Lower Back Pain

Argh here i go again, i have inflamed my lower spine, really painful when my GP was prodding about which probably didnt help, he then gave me pain killers and refered my for physio.

Well i had fun with them, so i refused to go on the ground off the staff were rude and would not honour my request to be seen by a female phsiotherapist!

After that i could not take the pain no longer so i saw an Osteopath who was an angel, she examined me and treated me and wow what a difference, that was 4 months ago, now however is a different story.

I am seeing her again in 2 weeks, as i left it too long between visits, but my pain and back are getting worse this time. i know it is something i am going to have to live with but its really getting to me now.

She also gave me the news that i could have osteo arthritus now or in the future, way to go to cheer me up!

Anyhow any advice or help for the pain and to get the GP to refer me to hospital?

Hello Dawn

I just sent a message to another sufferer. Instead of a physio try a pain clinic. I'm having a series of injections to relieve pain from spinal stenosis. you can see my message to scott17436 on this site. Good that you found an osteopath, what did she do ? I understand they are different from chiropractors. My physio told me it was spinal stenosis so I went to see a surgeon who arranged for me to have an MRI. I took the MRI to a pain clinic recommended by a friend who had a similar problem. The surgeon encouraged me to advocat for myself, he said surgery is

the final step. I don't know how many injections I will need, they are low doses

and I have 12 close to the lower spine. They are nerve blocks and they are known as 0.25% naropin here in Canada. My ex-GP said I was getting old, thanks for info

pal, I change to a new GP, she is so thorough. I wish you well Dawn.

I had a series of 3 several years ago and they worked!  I was told that 3 was the max.  Recently I had 2 and they got rid of the sciatic pain but did nothing for the awful spasms!  I also have stenosis and various other issues with my back!  I don't know what to do now!  I was supposed to call back in a few days to tell them how I was doing but the spasms happen when I walk or am on my feet a lot and I hadn't tested it out so I never called back.  Since then I have the spasms everytime!  I read if I would lose some weight it might help so I have an appointment with a nutritionist next week.  I have RA too and put an extra 30 pounds on when I was on prednisone on top of being overweight to begin with!

I wish you luck with your injections!  They actually weren't that bad!

Hi Dawn I emphasise with you.   I suffer from chronic back pain and recently had a very severe attack and was bent over double for 5 days and it took another 2 weeks before I could stand up straight.   I haven't been to the doctors because all they do is sling me some painkillers which don't even touch the pain,  tell me to exercise more and refer me to physio.  The NHS really don't do backs unless they are very severe.

I paid to see an osteopath but it's still not right.   Exercises are good though and I do one which he taught me and it does help.   You can google them online and it could be worthwhile you doing them.

All a hospital can really do is offer painkillers in your back but I have heard this is very painful.    What did help me too is to put a hot water bottle and/or a wheat pillow on my back.   Good luck.  x
