here I go ... I am 10 weeks post op R THR tomorrow -having good days an some (really) not so good ones like we all have - but now it is my lower back that is giving me grief .... My walk is lop sided, I limp and lean on my stick - to walk with a straight back is now so painful and even sitting up straight is not easy anymore ... bad posture all around ...and feel the hip joint hardware too - more so than before - what I would like to ask you is, do you know or do any good stretching exercises to strenghten these muscles - doing the "bridge" is the only one I know -
I walk like a "comma" or letter C - is there any cream or ointment that can bring some relief? How about a massage? or is that a no-no ?
Hello Renee sorry you are in the wars. Think aches and pains may be on going and part and parcel of the healing process. We have probably all changed the way we walk since surgery. I would think a Physio might be able to help you. I am experiencing bum muscle aches. My scar feels lumpy but think it is because the swelling has now gone
I am sorry you are going through this. I am 6 weeks post op on tuesday and have been having leg spasums since the day of the op.
Back spasms can result when a muscle has been torn or overworked, resulting in inflammation. Inflammation then stimulates the nerves that connect to the back muscles, causing the muscles to tighten and contract.
I wsould say a massage would help but it might be an idea to talk to your GP / consultant about some hydrotherapy where you excersise in water taking the weight off your back. A physiotherapist can also help you with back strength excersises.
Think some may observe it. I am not if any particular religion but if asked would probably say I am a bhuddist. One of my sisters probably celebrates as she is a true Christian. Lovely morning here in the SE England so out for a walk. Thinking of a beautiful arboretum near me. It is very hilly so taking sticks. You can google it - Winkworth arboretum Surrey and you can imagine yourself there
Hi Renne, I've been out of bed about an hour now, sitting in my granny chair, still feels like I'm sat on an object, it's so uncomfortable! I'm not due to see my consultant until June 15th, I was wandering how long I have to sit in this chair? I would just love to sit on my sofa, it's the recliner type. I also walk with a limp. I might try & get out for a walk today, hope you have a lovely day.
In the UK there is a Bank Holiday Monday 25 May, which in the old days it was to calebrate Pentecost, I think.. But in the UK every holiday is on a Monday and they call it "Bank Holiday", so the religiuos tradition is completely lost. I come from Italy, where all the religious festivals are written on the calendar!
Hi Julie I had a granny chair and had to sit in it for 6 weeks, its seemed so hard, I used to look longingly at my sofa and longed to sit on it with my legs up and a couple of times, just before my 6 weeks check I did just sneak over and lay down on sofa, but being very careful, it was soooooo nice.
Oh good! I'll give it a go then. I have slept on my back for 6weeks now, I struggled last night so I thought sod it I'm going on my side, it was a bit difficult with the body brace on but I did it! Funny thing is though I woke up on my back!
I have to cinfess that i don't have a recliner or granny chair - before surgery I had the couch put on blocks - it looks odd and ugly but it is high enough for me to sit down and stand up - (30 cm blocks) - I was never told to sit straight up for 6 weeks or that the couch is a n-no ............ hmmmm - never thought about that.
I was allowed to sleep on my, not operated side, side while still in the hospital - they brough me a pillow ( not the v-shaped cushion I had the first 2 nights) and showed me how to position my self - -
thank you for explaining your Bank holiday ..... in the USA ( recentluy moved back from Los Angeles after 35 years !!!) the last Monday in May is Memorial Day weekend - no Pentacost either ....
Just make sure you obey the 90° rule, I did same with my back, a week before my 6 week appointment I had a 24 hr d & v bug and I just crawled into bed on my side, then realised what I'd done and thought, well I'm all OK, so I slept on my side ever since. Be careful Julie, I didn't have a body brace and though I have arthritis in my spine its not as bad as yours by the sound of it. I'd hate anything to happen to you. I also have never been able to feel my prosthesis.
