LS and the pill

My daughter has had LS since she was 9 although she probably had it long before, but was misdiagnosed as thrush. Only got correct diagnosis when scar tissue extending to her urethra stopped her going for a pee sucessfully - incontinent at 9 nightmare! This has since improved.

Have been told that oestrogen in your system helps lessen LS and certainly hitting puberty made a difference and her symptoms seem to have almost gone away since then. Does this mean then that a combined pill is a good idea, as she is making decisions about contraception now

Can anyone share their experience good or bad as to whether anything makes a difference?

sorry to hear about your daughter. I had no problems until I went on the pill. Water infections, thrush, sore all the time. I was 21. Came off pill , slightly better. Got worse with soreness after 1st child at 28. Struggled until I was 58 befor I was diagnosed with LS. I look back and wonder if I had never taken the pill would I have been ok? I cannot give you an answer, but if your daughter is improving wait and see. If she gets worse then take advise from an expert

being on the pill does not make any change to LS. Mine is severe and has not got any better or worse on the pill.

When your daughter was diagnosed was she given a biopsy?

Im just wondering because i did not have a biopsy and the creams are not helping me at all..its getting worse i seem to be getting bladder weakness with it aswell...im 20 so that cant be good but doctors keep just sending me away with cream. Becoming quite distressed with it all.

hallo

I am taking oestragen only {vagifem} to heal and strengthen the vulva tissues.

To treat the Lichen Sclerosus you will have to use a steroid cream which i do also. Hope this is of help. Ask questions on this forum and you will always get an informed reply. Children usually grow out if Lichen Sclerosus not like us adults who will have it for life.
