I am a bit of an old bird now! I turned 60 last year. However, I don't look it, and get away with being mid 50's. Unfortunately diagnosed with LS recently. Sex was always a problem and I thought it was thrush I was immediately getting. However, it turned out to be LS. But I still get uncontrolled thrush as well. The Dermovate ointment which I have to use daily at the moment gives me thrush! Can anyone help with an alternative. I am so very sore and depressed.
Hi I'm like you , well 60 this year, I was diagnosed in July 2015 with LS. Dermovate cream which I'm sure I was told to use to much, now suffering badly with soreness and my skin peeling off.seen 4 doctors over the Christmas break. Now using antibiotic and steroid cream which stings like crazy .they think it's a fungal infection. So I can sympathise with you, I would suggest you go back and see your doctor.
The relationship between LS, yeast and steroid ointments is kind of evil. I'm 64, diagnosed way late and sexually active until a couple of years ago. My gynae switched me from Dermovate to Protopic a year ago and, now that I think of it, I've had no sign of yeast since then. No sex either, so that might be part of it.
Hello Lorraine
Many thanks for your email.
I have an appointment with a specialist but it isn't until the end of February!
Obviously, I can't wait. I will call my doctor tomorrow to hopefully get some help! It is all so depressing.
It seems the Dermovate can make you get fungal infections, so perhaps that is why you have fungal infection?
I bought some pro biotic tablets which I will take and see if they prevent me keep getting thrush. But the LS is still a major problem.
Perhaps you should look at getting some pro biotic medicine?
I hope you get better soon.
Keep in touch.
Regards.
Jan
Whoops, I mean I will call my doctor on Monday!
To Powerwoman and Lorraine, If you have thrush, which is an overgrowth of yeast or fungus, you need to eliminate the problem with treatment that is specific to that problem.Ask the doctor about Diflucan, an oral med for yeast or a topical antifungal, like nystatin ointment, or Monistat..It has been thought that steroid cream can lower immune system, and make the problem worse, in addition to thinning the skin. Antibiotic therapy is only for bacterial infection, and will make thrush worse.
Hi
I will speak to my doctor about switching from Dermovate.
It isn't easy to get this right because of the constant thrush I have.
As well as LS. Why can't I get normal conditions like a cold or something!!
Hi Cynthia
Exactly, the Dermovate makes the thrush worse!
But the Dermovate helps the LS!
So I have to chose between the two!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Nah, I can't choose.
I don't want either!!!!
:-0)
The nystatin ointment, not cream, that I mentioned has both antifungal, anti yeast, AND steroid. Ask about it!
Hi Cynthia
I have made a note of Nythastin cream you mentioned as well as Protopic ointment someone mentioned to use instead of Dermovate.
It seems there isn't an easy answer and I have to just keep trying to find the right fit for me!
Do you have a normal sex life?
No, not anymore, sadly.
Are you with somone? Can they do something to help you?
Is Nystatin the same as Canesten? Can you buy over the counter?
Unbelievably, I just booked an on line appointment with one of my doctors for Tuesday morning. Normally, I have to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment. I will see what they can do, but in the meantime, I am suffering. I am so sore and dead scared to use Dermovate ointment. Thrush is maginally better but still there.
There have been other sufferers here who were prescribed this Nystatin – it combines anti-fungal meds for the yeast and steroid for LS.
Have you cut way back on sugar? It's the key to the connection between yeast and LS. Cutting out big servings is a very quick fix for many of us. I have sugars in my daily diet, but I never have chocolate bars, big sweet desserts or ice cream. Not to mention sugary soda pop.
I use a touch of Canestan cream topically if yeast even hints at flaring up.
Hello
I have just started cutting back on sugar! It isn't easy as it's my only pleasure in life! Nothing else gives me pleasure. Still I have to do this.
I will still have some, but cutting it drastically.
Is fruit ok to have? I am thinking of trying this as a subsitute?
I'm sure you'll find it worthwhile and my experience is that the craving stops right away when you stop feeding it. I still have two cups of sweet coffee and two 5 oz glasses of red wine a day, a tbsp of maple syrup in my oatmeal, but no more slabs of chocolate, I don't bake cookies any more, I don't order dessert in a restaurant, etc. A very few times last summer I had kiddie-size ice cream cones.
Another easy thing that I think has worked wonders for me, judging by my vastly improved digestion, is naturally fermented (no vinegar) sauerkraut. It's full of good bacteria who go after yeast. I eat half a cup as an appetizer. I don't love it, but I'm convinced it's part of why my LS is so calm. (Probably dill pickles done in brine would also be good, but I really think cabbage is great for us.) I used to eat a lot of my homemade organic yogurt, but it wants sweetening...
The connection between LS and Candida is well known. Too much sweet stuff causes major flare ups, and so it is what you are eating that is the cause of the problems, not really the cream. Once you stop the sugar, and treat the thrush, things will start to get better. There are over the counter pills you can take for thrush.
I have taken the over the counter thrush pills. Haven't worked at all.
Neither have the Canesten pessaries! I now have to wait until tuesday to see a doctor! This is ridiculous
Not piles of fruit. I eat very little. Fruit juice is bad because it doesn't really satisfy hunger, but you can guzzle down the equivalent of several pieces of fruit fast. It's still sugar that yeast needs.
