LS Colloidal silver first aid gel

OMG Just read a post somewhere where the person stated that she had treated her ls white patch with Colloidal silver first aid gel and the patch had dried up and dropped off.  I mistakenly left the post and now can't find it.  I was fascinated by this and have been researching and wow.  If this is right then this is a brilliant find for all of us Ls sufferers.  To the user I would love to hear more.  Did treating with this hurt, burn or nothing.  I am very impressed with my research so far but worried about jumping in.  Apparently you can buy the colloidal silver and mix it with aloe vera gel to make your own gel much cheaper than the proprietry stuff on the market.  It can be used to treat Urinary Tract Infections. It has been used in nasal sprays and throat sprays so it appears to be non-toxic.  Need to hear from anyone who has used this.  It also mixes with coconut oil which was said to give an all round product which sounds perfect for us.  It is supposed to be an amazing healer when antibiotics are not working.

Has anyone else heard of this or even better tried it out?

Colloidal silver isn't considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim.Colloidal silver products are made of tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid — the same type of precious metal used in jewelry, dental fillings, silverware and other consumer goods.Colloidal silver products are usually marketed as dietary supplements that are taken by mouth. Colloidal silver products also come in forms to be injected or applied to the skin.Manufacturers of colloidal silver products often claim that they are cure–alls, boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, eye ailments and prostatitis. However, no sound scientific studies to evaluate these health claims have been published in reputable medical journals. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims. It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr–JIR–e–uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures. Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen), quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline and thyroxine (Levothroid, Levoxyl, Synthroid) medications.

I found this on the mayo clinic. So im not sure. The idea of using something that will make the skin fall off sounds freaky. I would talk to your dr before using it.

Shari

Thank you so much for your quick reply.  I thought it was too good to be true.  Will keep a look out for it and others thoughts.   It is amazing how we can be duped if we are not careful to check things out.  I don't think having blue grey skin down there would be preferential at all. URGH!!  I will need more info if I am ever to try this one.  Like they say if it sounds too good

- it usually is!!!rolleyes

Yeah, I'm very careful what I put down there. Even if people say how great something worked for them I do a lot of research and consult my dr before I try it.

Shari

Wow...Its good that you posted on here first before trying it.

Have used silver water with no ill effects. My husband bought a silver water maker.

It is designed to be used sparingly. Like medication which would be harmfull in higher doses than needed.

I found it helped for cold sores and i had them pretty bad at one stage. My husband uses it daily as a nose spray to control his sinus problems and is mostly pain free now.

I dont think we should be too quick to discount natural therapies.

We live in a chemical world and i believe for me it was exposure to chemicals in every day life that has caused my auto immune diseases.

So i am going to try the silver water and see if it helps or not for me.

Thank you for sharing that info Chrissy.

Wilma.

Nope isn't too good to be true, it's used on plenty of the natural health boards on my FB groups.

Sha, your research matches mine. I wouldn't try it. Our fragile skin is extra vulnerable to urine and feces and other bodily fluids. We avoid perfumes and chemicals and soaps, so why would we risk a potentially toxic mineral? If it really worked, there'd be big news of more than one double-blind, randomized, placebo/control clinical trial and subsequent analysis of the results.

Silver dressings have been used to treat wounds and leg ulcers infected with MRSA.  Following a laryngectomy, a patient that I know was given a silver fitting for his new stoma, this was because the silver minimises the risk of infection as it can not exist in the presence of silver.

I think caution should be exercised when trying something new. I have not read around the topic much but I have not heard about ingesting silver in any form.

Topical application of silver dressings have proved their efficacy on wounds of the skin.

I hope this has helped a little, kind regards,

Gin

Thanks to everyone for their input. I will shelve this idea for treating myself until I can find out more.  It would be good if people could put their experiences on this or the other site for alternative methods.  Then we can all follow others experiences.

Chrisy, I've been drinking 10ml (about a dessert spoonful) of Colloidal silver daily on an empty stomach for two years.

My skin is still pink!

I put it in my eyes as eye drops. My eyes are better than ever despite keratitis and dry eye syndrome (it's not the only thing I put in my eyes, though).

When I get a cut or a burn, I dab a wee bit on, and it heals faster (I am naturally a slow healer)

CS has been in use for more than 100 years and was the antibiotic of choice before Alexander Flemming discovered mould in his petri dish (or whoever created penicillin).

The story about it turning the skin blue comes – as far as I know – from the single source of a man who drank large amounts each day for 10 or so years.  I read somewhere that despite the blue tinge, he was so impressed with CS's effect on his body that he refused to stop taking it.

The FDA and everyone else have a huge vested interest in condemning alternatives that actually work – there's almost no money in it.

(They are not bothered about those that don't work as long as they're harmless.)

You can buy the silver rods and a small device of some kind and make your own. All you need is distilled water.

Or purchase it in a brown bottle. My nutritionist told me it lasts forever if away from the light...

Oh, and FYI... everyone around me has had flus and colds in the last year but by some miracle (or because of colloidal silver?) I, with my compromised immune system, have not had a single one.

When I asked my nutritionist if the reason for this could be my daily minusule intake of CS, he laugh and nodded.

I've been told of people who put drops in their cut flowers to keep them alive longer... and spray it on their vegetables in the fridge for the same reason...

There are many uses...

It's the world's best kept secret. And everyone everywhere will tell you not to trust it.

Up to you.

Hi,  Thanks for this information.  I am still undecided but it is good to hear both sides of the story so that I can make a more informed decision.  I use some alternative meds, but proven ones, and am willing to wait and see how you get on.  Had this problem years so a few more months won't hurt.  Please keep us all informed as to how you get on.  I know others who may be interested.

Hi, (Love the name) Pinkgin,

Thankyou for that.  I had heard years ago about silver being used for infection but had forgotten about it.  It is good to hear others stories.  Thanks.

Thank you Light,  Yours post is very interesting.  I do understand what you say about the use of silver.  Good to hear a nutritionist's point of view.  I think we forget that nutrition is at the root of cures for many problems we have to contend with.  Over the years many cures have come from the food we eat or by ingesting unusual things, like the bark of a tree making Aspirin a well known cure for pain and many things.  Recently discovered to thin the blood and used by many to help with cholesterol.  So I am really interested in this.  I already use cloths with silver treatment for my kitchen, they reportedly do not harbour bacteria.  All good information. Can't wait to talk to my dermatologist about all this.  I hope we have enough time for all the points I wan't to raise this time.

Hi Chrisy, do look at the website "quack watch" (one word) post it with colloidial silver and do read to the end- you may prefer not to use this substance after reading how many companies have been ordered to stop making claims that are not true by various  bodies in the USA and Australia et al. Perhaps we are nutritionally depleted because of all the fertilisers and chemicals that have reduced the  bneficial chemicals in our food but these will be trace elements barely detectable overall so having a glass full every day does seem rather excessive. I certainly would NOT put it on to my poor diseased undercarriage!

Hi Suedm,

Thanks for the information.  I will follow that one up.  I am grateful for everyones input.

I believe the amount of disinformation about natural products is way off the scale! Colloidal Silver is a documented and effective anti-microbial agent against several strains of bacteria, including many that have now become resistant to conventional antibiotics, PERIOD. Simply type PMID 23017226 in your favorite search engine to get the facts in the US National library of medicine. Yes, with the ingestion of any substance come potential side-effects which will vary from person to person, but to get argyria from CS requires long-term overdosing. Please consider that you can die from an overdose of water, before experiencing fear about any natural product!

The question that would be more appropriate over here would be "How effective is CS against LS?" and to that question, there is no concrete widespread evidence at this point. However, if your LS is associated with bacterial invasion, or if it has reacted favorably when taking antibiotics, then CS might be of some help to provide your body a fighting chance to heal. I have also read that some cases of LS have actually been misdiagnosed and were in fact, other forms of bacterially associated dermatis that have been cured, when the causative bacteria was eliminated. I have indicated a link on such a story in the LS forum, on a specific post about antibiotics.

I personally have cured myself of another so-called incurable skin disease called Lichen Simplex Chronicus with St. John's Wort, and have excellent reasons to believe that the anti-microbial properties of the plant were behind my success story. Thanks to modern research, the disease is now linked to Staphylococcus Aureus, against which an anti-microbial molecule present in St. John's Wort is known to be effective.

So eventhough I haven't personally tried CS for any condition, I follow any recent discoveries with great interest, as I believe many modern diseases may be linked to bacteria. Remember that each and everyone one of us is always a guinea pig when trying out any medicine against disease. We can only hope for the best, and if it works, then we are part of the blessed ones who dared to try something different and helped science advance!

Good luck!

Thank You Greg. I am grateful for your input. Hopefully it will help some one.

Wilma.

Me too! Good post, solid information. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your reply and information.  I am in agreement that some things are worth trying yourself.  You have to weigh up all the pros and cons.  I have on occasions tried a variety of alternative treatments and have had some success on occasions; although also I have been hugely dissappointed on occasions.  I do believe from all my research that LS is an auto immune problem and not bacterial.  I am still researching this treatment and have not totally discounted it yet. We are all very different and I believe we all respond to different treatments differently.  What works for some doesn't for others.  You will be sure that if I do try it I will definately be reporting the results.
