Lying on operated side

Hi all,

I was told that I could sleep on my operated side after 6 weeks.  Ater 4 1/2 weeks it is still so sore I can't imagine being able to sleep on it after 6 weeks.  I just wondered what everyone else's experience has been.

Thought the same, but actually a lot can change in a couple of weeks.

i don't lie on that side for long, but I can do so without pain.

I am nearly 6 weeks - and I cannot lie on op side yet it feels uncomfortable -  just been sleeping on non-op side with cushion between legs or on my back - I guess I will just try it every few days.

Hi I've been sleeping on my operated side since about 5 weeks, it was sore at first but I put a cushion under the top of my leg to help raise it off the bed and take some pressure off it. I'm nearly 11 weeks post op now and it is still a bit tender but bearable. I don't sleep much more than 2 hours at a time but I'm still more comfortable in bed so I try to persevere.

Hey, Cels...I believe you and I had the same surgery date, and I'm way too squeamish to even try sleeping on my operated side. I tried sleeping on my non-operated side a week or so ago, for 1-2 minutes...then 5 minutes...and now I can handle about 1/2 hour, in a sleepy state - with the aforementioned really big pillow between my legs so operated leg doesn't cross past the midline. My scar looks good (I mean...insofar as scars go) but it's quite tender still, so I don't think I'll be attempting to sleep on that side (RH side, lateral/posterior) for quite some time. That's ok...I like the left side better.  ; )  All in due time, My Pretty, all in due time!

i think about 8 weeks - then with a pillow in between my legs

We did!  I have tried once or twice, very gingerly to put a little weight in that side but it's far too ouchy.  I do sleep for short periods on my no-op side even though I ws told not to.  I alternate between that and on my back.

Thanks xxx

There's hope yet then biggrin

I'll keep testing it out xxx

Likewise Sarah.  I just wondered if I was sorer that everyone else, but it's reassuring to know that it's not just me.

Thanks xxx

That's a good idea Brenda.  So you put the cushion above your knee but below the scar, is that right?  I might give it a go.  I'm desperate for another sleeping position xxx

Thanks Anna.  I think sometimes I expect too much too soon.  I've never been great on being patient biggrin

Thanks xxx

Yes that's what I've been doing. Let me know how you get on, it's important to have a good nights sleep, it makes you feel lifeless if you don't. I know the feeling.

Hi cels

I'm 8 weeks post op today and still cannot lay on operated side. It's to uncomfortable x

I am At same stage as you cels and I dont even want to try on op side as still feeling very sore amd tender :-( hopefully wont be much longer though - we will get there !!!

X

Keep testing it, but don't lay on your side if it's painful.

First time around (last October/November) I could easily get onto my operated side, but not the un-operated side.  Second time (January/February), exactly the opposite.  confused

So like everything in this recovery, it depends ...... on how you are healing. I don't think there's anything magic about which side is best, as long as you are comfortable and don't cross those legs over the mid-line.

At 12 weeks, I can now lay on either side for hours at a time.smile

We will Khippie.  Glad to know that I'm not abnormally sore though.

Thanks xxx

Cheers Lisa.  Nice to know I'm not alone biggrin

Hi Graham,

I hope work is going okay.

I'm lying on my unop side with a pillow (which I was told I shouldn't do), but don' t think I'll be able to lie on op side in another 10 days (which I was told I could do).  Sometimes you wonder why the rules are so different.

Cels,

Rules are for the medics, we just listen to our bodies.

I had LTH on 2-8-16 and RTH on 3-28-16. I can now lay on my left side half the night then roll on my back
