Hi everyone
I have been diagnosed with lyme 3 years ago after being suffering of many symptoms for over 7 years. I started a treatment with a doctor from spaon who is specialist in this disease. For the last 1 1/2 years I have been taking antibiotics.
Some years ago I start to experience dry eyes but it was so seldom that I didn't pay much attention to it. But like 1 year ago it became worse and now I experience extremely dry eyes almost all the time this dryness comes and goes without explenation. My doctor in spain don't know what it can be ..I had also been in the eye doctor but she says everything is normal. I got some gel eye drops but when I use them it just get worse.
I would like to know if this have to do with my lyme or if it is something else.
Is anybody having this symptom too? Anything I can do to get better.
I have to say the dryness get worse a few days before getting my period.
Hi Andrea. Experimenting dry eyes is typical of Lyme. Borrelia loves to create problems in the eye department... a common problem is also light sensitivity, which will make you unable to go out during the daytime. Lots of time when there is not an explanation it's due to Lyme.
Antibiotics won't help you if they found the disease too late: borrelia is very smart, forms cysts and hides in tissues to avoid the actions of the antibiotics themselves.
Thanks for the info ..that most be the reason why my eyes are so irritated and dry.
Do you have any suggestions to keep this dryness down? ..anything will be a big help I am desperate.
Studies have found that supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids can decrease dry eye symptoms. As for your Lyme, the only thing you can do is trying to keep it in remission, eating healthy and exercising. Borrellia is probably in your brain as well, I would run some tests to see if everything it's okay up there.
Thanks for your help.
My lyme test(germany) also give positive results for chlamydia pneumonia, ehrlichia / anaplasma and coxsackie virus my doctor( Spanish specialist in lyme) started to suspect I also have bartonella even though the test for this bacteria were negative.
I live in Denmark and here is nearly impossible get any test plus there is not private hospitals.
Anyway I will ask my doctor in spain if he had any suggestions for what I can do regarding to get check my brain.
I hope you'll get better. Let us know how what he tells you. Good luck!
