Made it to walton centre for op!

finally here. So excited it's unreal!

Nurse just came in. I'm second on the list. smile

taken 4 lots of blood and urine sample. Something I've never had done before at a pre op! Oh and they didn't have any appointments between last Monday and now for pre-op so said they would do it when I got here! Can't fault service at all!

All the the nurses are exceptionally happy, polite and caring.

Cant no wait to start a new chapter in my life now!

What are you having done James ?

I hope everything turns out great for you and you go home feeling like a new person.

John

Hi john, having a microdisectomy l5/s1 as I have nerve root compression. I get pain on my right hand side of my back too which he has warned me I may end up living with. I'm hoping for 50% pain relief or more. So I can't get off the morphine.

James they are so through they sent one lot of my blood tests back because lab. Could not make out a letter on the test tube. I was interviewed by about 4 different people pre-op. Everything is taken care of. Enjoy the sleep you are about to have a better future - keep me posted on how things go. You maybe in pain for 1st 24 hours don't panic you should you mobility back very quickly after that.

Good luck.

James

I had this done last March, it's incredibly scary yet exciting.

When you wake up it'll be pretty surreal so just make sure you do what you're told

Hi drinks, all done. Had to have a dye injection using X-ray prior to op. Given me so many meds i feel like I'm on another planet!!

Best of al, I only feel surgery pain, no leg or back!!

James

Really hope you're feeling top of the world this morning, pain will be more prominent this morning.

Be positive

Hi Nick, pain is a little less than yesterday. Can walk a little easier, not too far though.

Most of my pain is in getting from seated position to upright, then while walking

Yeah sounds about right mate! But pleased you're doing well

First night in hospital is truly awful

Fantastic news.

You will feel so much better tomorrow.

Just been discharged.

physio has been, got exercises to do.

Still very tender, physio has advised me to use wheelchair to get to the car. I will be alright then. Got to have stitches out in 10 days to 2 weeks. Just checking with insurance company when they restrict me driving till.

Cant it wait to get my life back on track.

Well done James - just going to ask what John asked....Looks like they have cleaned up their act since I last was there but it was a long long time.   I had decompression at \l4/5 and L3/4 but Valencia have said that it would be too dangerous for anything else and he says that it all about scar tissue.  Scar tissue, I can't make it all out.  Micro - must have come in since I had my decompression 6 years ago as I have a long scar on my back.  Everyone is different and just because you are having this op doesn't mean me or anyone else can have it done. But we will see, I know there are a lot more people worse than me so won't go on I just feel that my PCT in Cumbria could have done a lot for me before I came to Valencia and that I needn't have parted with £7000 for the op.  Good luck James. can't wait for you to come back and let us know how you got on.

Just a quick note, how long did you wait for your op....

here here don't do anything daft..

I saw the consultant first in November last year, had scan mid November, attempted nerve root block beginning of December and put on waiting list for Operation approx 10th Jan and was phoned 18th Jan to see if I could come in on 24th for op on 25th incredible speed!

Hi James I hope that everything is going well for you, I just wish I could get to see the same Dr's as you have

How are you James, its 2 months now since your op just wondered how you were.

Anne

Like a new man! Pain is 90% gone in back. Totally in my legs. I was off the morphine in just over 2 weeks. 120mg a day to nothing!

I fully intend to do a charity fund raiser for the Walton centres charity, without them I would be stuck at my hospital here in pain still as they refused to operate!

I am so glad James, I am still stuck here Walton wouldn't even look at me, probably too old to bother with me, although when I went to Walton I wasn't old lol.

I have said that I want cortisone injections so that I can have a rest from pain and then they are going to do an injection to see where the pain is coming from. Its not coming from my back although Lyrica seems to deaden the pain but am frightened I am losing my memory.  Did you by chance have private insurance?

My friend from Wrexham is the same as me, we were school friends, she went to the Walton and they won't operate on her but I don't think they operated on anyone when I went for an appointment....the big bloke I saw had a cold and all he could do was speak through a hanky. Horrible man.

What did they do by the way and I forget what your symptoms were.  I am not saying there is hope for me but I am sick of all this pain. I left my handbag in a taxi in Valencia last week with money in - I was so much in pain I had to be dragged out of the taxi to get to our car.  Of course not got it back...Luckily not too much in it, except 60€ but my memory going is bothering me and so would like to get out of Lyrica.  How didmorphone work for you?

Hell you will be back at work in no time.

Let me know a bit more.  Anne

James,

As someone who recommended Walton Centre to you I am so delighted your pain has gone and life is now looking brighter. I still have nerve sensations in my legs since my op. but my mobility is great.

I hope your recovery continues.
