Currently 14 weeks post tkr, I haven't posted for a few weeks but have been following discussions. At last post I was having real problems, I was sitting at 61° flexion and 30° extension at 8 weeks and waiting for some physio to help prevent an mua. It took another 4 weeks for my appointment to come through but I had been working hard at home to make improvements. I have just had my second physio and have now improved my flexion to 98° and extension down to 15°. I am still using one crutch but I have 2 more planned physios to go so I will hopefully be able to make further improvement over the next two weeks. As the doctor says, keep taking the pills and don't forget the exercise.
Good for you Carol. You've obviously been working hard. Are you still taking pain meds? I'm at almost 11 wks and find I still need them at least once a day if not twice
Hi Helen, rarely taking any pain relief but probably should. My physio has told me to increase them whilst I am working on the flexion and extension. She has also told me to stay on the one crutch for now but hopes to have me off it by the end of our session. It has been a long slog, I was really panicking at 6 weeks when my progress was slow, especially after reading how well some were doing here.
Physio told me I could go without a cane as of yesterday. Feel a little insecure outside without it. She worked on my iliotibial tract yesterday, which she said would help as it was "stuck", I've been cursing her ever since and my thigh is black and blue and really sore. She tells me this should make going downstairs easier. We'll see. Really want to get off pain meds but days like this don't help. Keep in touch and good luck.
That's brilliant Carol, I'm so pleased for you. Unfortunately I'm one of those cases who needs further procedures. I'm currently scheduled for an MUA and Adesiolysis (to cut muscle) at the end of July. I would of loved to be able to improve with physio and I can only imagine the sense of achievement you feel. Well done x
Thanks Kathryn, sorry to hear that you are having to have these procedures. I live in N. Ireland and to be honest, I thought my surgeon was being a bit laid back about my problems but I am glad he has given me the opportunity to try to work through this. The added support of receiving some physio ( it is not offered as a rule here) has been great. Seeing some improvements has lifted a lot of the stress.
Sounds like you are doing great, well done to you and best wishes
