Managing fatigue

Does anyone have any advice for managing the fatigue/tiredness i suffer so badly with. i just feel so tired, i can just about manage a day at work and thats about it. i feel like i could/need to just go to sleep! Its crippling me! Thanks

My sympathies. I know exactly how wiped out one can feel with IBD.

Check the downloadable information sheets that Crohn's and Colitis UK publish. There is one for individuals specifically about fatigue and one for employers explaining what they can do and should be doing to help sufferers. Hopefully you have an approachable line manager or HR department who will listen and understand what you are going through and do whatever they can to help.

Maybe you should see a doctor I am suffering with fatigue I had some blood work done and my doctor said I was loosing blood and was chronic anemia which people Can get that have chronic conditions I am taking iron pills and folic acid Idon't know how the iron pills and folic. acid is working yet just started taking i have a appointment to to get some more blood work to see how i am doing. Hope you feel better soon.

I am exactly the same as you and have been for the last year. Barely manage a day at work, sometimes hit a brick wall and just have to come home to bed. Despite this I really struggle to sleep at night! I am going to my GP tomorrow to see what she suggests as I am really fed up. Will keep you posted.

Just a word of warning that iron can cause inflammation of the gut which is the last thing you need with an IBD flare. Supplements should be taken with care and after consultation with your doctor. I do not eat meat so had always taken a supplement. After I was diagnosed with UC, my consultant told me to stop. Of course, it's important to have iron in our diets but take care not to overdo it.

What's meds are you on? If you are taking steroids these can cause sleep difficulties which only adds to the exhaustion. I take Prednisolone. One big dose in the morning is too much for me and leaves me feeling wired and hyperactive. My consultant said I could spread the dose, half morning, half afternoon but never after 2:00 pm .

you need to get some tests, CRP, homocystiene, vitamin B 12, and CBC, only after that I can suggest something valuable

thanks for letting .me know about iron supplements

I am now on Mesalazine, was previously on steroids and was literally climbing the walls - it was road rage and PMT all rolled into one :) The doctor has now referred me to another specialist, as apparently my white cell count was pretty high on the last blood tests. The abnormal cell count has been pretty consistent over the last 18 months and they cannot seem to find out what causes it. I am just so so tired ...

my crp although is still raised (44) i think it has come down from 55 i think with taking colazide/balasalside and daily steroid enemas. so there is active inflammation but i am reluctant to take hogh dose oral steroids

hi. i suffer terribly from fatigue too. i had bloods done and all is fine apart from my vitamin d which could have been higher. the gp gave me 1650 IU. i also stopped taking statins because of the side effects. so i have started taking coQ10 200mg. i wasnt expecting anything from supplements but i definitely have more energy. i dont sleep as much. hope it continues.
