I was doing pretty good, LTHR due next Fiday getting things sorted, in a lot of pain and walking a problem, but hey thats the way it goes. Anyway I spoke to my doctor on the phone, couldn't get a face to face apointment, but thats another story, because I was getting a problem with lower back pain/spasms through getting on and off the upstairs toilet and he agreed to get Occupational Therapy arranged soonest to see what I needed. This was the middle of last month. Anyway I checked back end of the month and there had been a mix up and the letter was going to be sent asap. My wife phoned the medical center today and was told the secretary had a backlog and the letter still had not been sent. I have sorted the problem by using the downstairs toilet only but it's a long way and difficult just now. Thing is where do I go from here apart from going down to the medical center in the morning which is difficult enough. Given that the referal to OT was urgent and it is now 4 weeks since the initial phone call is there not a failing of duty of care or somesuch involved here. For heavens sake I am usefull I could have sorted the problem my self by installing a grab rail and a toilet seat extension, but expected OT to call any time which they won't as they don't know. It doesn't help, have my plate full already. Rant over sorry needed to get it out
Hi. My care Trust told me in a group meeting that I'd get a call & stuff would be delivered! Pahh...
I rang 2 wks ago & was told over the phone that OT would probably send any equipment needed at home with my husband on day of op..That's on Monday. I'm not happy as I get upset when things don't go as I thought they should.
I feel your Frustration
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Westie 😊
Good morning - I hope you are feeling better today .... I am so sorry that ytou are having such a bad time - rant as musch as you like ... I don't knw much about this - I live in Holland and just picked the neceassary aids from a Home Health Care store - some of the things are included in my health insurance and some I have to pay for or purchase ...I hope you get it sorted out soon and life will get easier for you -- take it easy Gromit - big hug -
Thanks folks, indeed feel a bit better this morning, had a brandy or two last night and am a bit fuzzy but better. Have a prescription to pick up from the health center today which will be an ideal oportunity to have a word or two. This time next week all being well is the day, acceptance is the word I think, anything to stop this endless downhill nagging pain, turn the corner and work on getting my mobility back. I used to be a walker, miles and miles up and down the coast with the dogs, now 500 yards is about the outer limit and then I pay for it. Anybody who cant take NSAID's orally using Movelat, it's good stuff.
Poor you Grommit. I often despair of our health service and can only suggest you complain loudly and often to your practice manager, your nhs trust, your mp and the health minister.
i am a week post op. Whilst in hospital I asked about doing the ironing and the OT told me she would order a perch stool for me. Yesterday I got a letter from my local OT department saying I will be assessed in 3 to 6 months time! Should I tell them I was rather hoping to be better by then? Lol
Pre op and made referral to OT. Was told it would be several months before assessment. Got a local handiman to put on stair rail and was lucky to get raised toilet seats from someone who no longer needs them. I CONTACTED ot WHEN i GOT A DATE FOR SURGERY ANS WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BE OUT TO ASSESS WHEN I WAS DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL. (caps accidental not for affect!) Anyway if I had not got the raised toilet seats how was i supposed to use the toilet while waiting for assessment??
Hi Gromit,
I was actually given a raised toilet seat as a Christmas present a couple of years ago (don't ask....!). So we fitted it a few months ago. But as for anything else, it was all sorted out on my last day in hospital - loo rails, crutches on loan for 3 months.
Do hope you get things sorted BEFORE you have your op.
Good luck!
Xx
Not much fear of things getting sorted before the op on Friday, Went to the health center yesterday afternoon to complain, doctor issued instruction to write to OT about me on the 18th of May, letter still has not been written, complaint form will be sent not that it will do any good, will get things sorted this next week before I go in then i can return home with confidence. Have enough to deal with without worrying about that shower of *******
ARE YOU SURE ??? just kidding -
Are you in the uk? Strange how you think we have a National Health Service, then thing are done on such different terms in different areas ... I recieved two loo seats in frames(up and down stais), a perch stool, chair raising kit and had to attend pre operation physio/oh lesson in how to cope with things like dressing, washing etc.. with various aids, before i even got date for op. ? Just arranged for em to go back... gonna miss my stool, but not loo seats.lol. look back t hrough some of the old posts( two or three months ) and yo u can find some top tips for hippies.
All the best Jay.
