I am 50 and had the marina coil fitted two weeks ago after 2 years of non stop bleeding. Really wanted a hysterectomy but after numerous visits to gp, tests and gynae this is all they would offer me. Since its been fitted Ive had very heavy bleeding with clots and awful cramps/ backache. Ive had three kids and the pain is as bed as labour. The bleeding is so bad I cant sleep and have to change pads every half hour. I feel that Ive made a huge mistake having it fitted as it has made the problem worse but im terrified of having it removed as putting it in was also awful.
At the moment things feel so bad I cant lead a normal life
Does anyone have anything positive they can tell me? I also take tranexamic acid, norethisterone and iron for anemia.
I had the same and it turned out that I had an infection after the hospital visit to get it fitted, I was laid up for 3 weeks. Constant bleeding for about a month too. After 3 months it all settled down and I had about 8 excellent trouble free months, but the last 4 months have been hell again. Off for a visit to the hospital next week.
I am very sympathetic with you. I too have had bleeding constantly for the last 3 weeks, heavy, painful and large clots. I have taken Norethisterone and Tranexamic Acid but only today I have started to feel better. By better I mean I am not changing my super plus tampon an towel every half an hour, not getting more than 20 mins sleep an hour as I am scared of flooding myself and the bed again! I am still very lethargic and weak and am waiting for blood tests results from GP. Testing to see if there is an underlying problem - diabetes, thyroid, FSH, PCOS etc. I would like to just have it all taken away and my life back. But at 37 this is not the most sensible option. I was considering the Mirena on my GP advice but I am struggling to find a positive report. Any advice from any one would be welcomed. I wish you well and pass on `virtual` hugs.
i too am suffering with heavy periods lasting 10 days cant go out for the first 3 of them and not far for the next 5 fortunatly this happens once a month but i hate being a hermit when friends dont understand i am 42 and have had 3 children, after the last one i was advised to have the marina coil and like a lot of people i couldnt deal with the pain and constant bleeding for 3 months so i had it taken out and i can remember walking out of the surgery with absolute relief as the pain stopped immediatly and i didnt even realise it had been taken out so it is definatly not worth worrying about i now take tremasic acid and mefenamic acid would like to hear of any experiences of using these together as havent done so yet
