Has anyone out there tried massage for spinal OA please? There are so many out there, I don't know which is best
For what it’s worth, my physiotherapist has done what she calls “gentle manipulation” when I go to her, although the massage is only part of the treatment I get. Some people love their chiropractors but I would never go to one. My father was a physician and he seemed to be frequently trying to fix people who had been injured by chiropractic methods. I do find the physiotherapy is helpful, but she she spends time talking with me about how I feel and my symptoms before doing anything so it’s very tailored to my condition.
I have a course of massages as often as I can can afford it. I can’t say it really helps the pain, but it is very relaxing. The problem is a lot of the masseurs “dig” too deeply and that is harmful and you suffer for a couple of days afterwards.
I’m pleased you mentioned chiros…I’ve heard that before. Osteos seem to have more cred! All these treat ments are so expensive and I know what you mean about the ‘talking’ aspect…you just want someone to just get on with it, don’t you?!

The digging is what bothers me. We need to feel confident in whoever is doing the massage. I’d heard 'therapeutic massage was good. I’d rather go to someone like a physio who has sidestepped into massage I think. There’s a lot of sports massage out there which I guess is really no help

I meant I liked that she talked to me. She is making sure I’m responding as hoped to the treatment, and also determining what best to do next. She’s by far the best physiotherapist I’ve ever had, and I have a slew of exercises collected over the years for practically every part of my body, so I’ve met a lot of them!
Similar to massage (and I can’t say enough about how much it helps me with my knees and neck) is ultrasound treatment. I have my own ultrasound machine and hit the pain when it flares up (knees nearly every day). I use Sonic Relief and there are others out there. Love it. I’m in control, doesn’t cost much (compared to appointments). Feel well!!
